After a recent update of firefox to version 3.5.5 we noted our open office documents (*.odt files) were being downloaded by firefox and converted into a read-only file. It appears the developers have made a change to make it less likely a file will be lost during a download forcing the user to create another file to work on. See post:

After discussing the problem with Tony we have found a solution. Do this on each login and the problem goes away:

In Firefox.

1. in address enter about:config
2. Right click in the body of the page displayed and select New -> Boolean
3. In the name dialogue enter browser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit
4. In the value select false

Problem solved.
