Report to determine income from dispensing fees

We are accepting the inevitable demise of veterinarian's ability to sell medications with a mark-up and looking at other alternatives, specifically a higher dispensing fee and very small mark-up on each medication to cover for damage/loss/out-of-date issues. Before we take the plunge, we are keen to run a few reports to help us project the impact of such a change.

Essentially, we need to know what our income from medication sales are - taking into consideration the dispensing fees. That is, we need to somehow separate the dispensing fee from the cost and the sale price. Anyone have ome clever tips as to how we might do this?

I have played around with the Sales of products report but it does not give me enough detail.

Regards

Re: Report to determine income from dispensing fees

Paul - is  the problem that you want to see a sales report showing the cost, fixed price and unit price?  ie to expand the current customer sales report which shows:

to add in columns for the cost, the fixed price component and the unit price component?

Re: Report to determine income from dispensing fees

Yes that's right Tim. It will help to work out what would happen if/when we essentially double the dispensing fees, and slice the mark-up down to 5-10%

We have used the above report in a fashion, using best guesses, but it would be nice to put some solid data into our decision.

Re: Report to determine income from dispensing fees

Any further thoughts out there on this?

We could total up the products that have each of the different dispensing fees charged, but that will take some time. I am a bit surprised someone else has not run income reports that break the products down into dispensing fee catagories.

If no-one has such a report I can generate one next week.

Re: Report to determine income from dispensing fees

Hi,

I have a report that splits fixed and variable fees. However it does this by Product Type (we have our product types set to our Chart of Accounts).

Let me know if you would like this report.

I believe (but am not sure) that TimG wrote this for us. Tim - are you fine for us to share?

Thanks,

Adrian

Paul - wait one. See private email.  Regards, Tim G

Re: Report to determine income from dispensing fees

OK - it is done and and available from the Resource Library - see http://www.openvpms.org/customisation/customer-product-sales-report-r01

Any feedback appreciated. Note that although this is not built as an 'Export' report, I suspect that it is best utilised by exporting the output and then playing with the data in Excel or OO Calc.

Apologies for the production delay.

Re: Report to determine income from dispensing fees

Tim,

I have run this, and it almost gives me what we are after. I couldn't get any filtering to work - we only want PO Medications, but I couldn't get the report to work when I put this in Product Type or Classification, with or without a % sign after it (wasn't sure if this was needed). It just returned an empty report.  Also, the only total it provided was for total medication cost; be good also to have the total of the fixed fees.

If I left all blocks empty, just changing the date, I got the full report, but as we have entered some of our procedures as Medications, it also included the cost of these, which we don't want.

Thanks,

Maureen
