Would like to see two appointment statuses added "called" and "confirmed"

I would like to propose that two appointment statuses be added "called" and "confirmed". Having these present in the system will make it much easier to track appointment confirmations for future dates.

It is my understanding that these can't simply be added in the admin panel because of coding issues of what would happen when you tried to check in a "called" appointment. OPEN wouldn't know how to handle the status.

If this is incorrect, can someone please set me straight. If it is, can this be proposed for a future update?

Re: Would like to see two appointment statuses added ...

Maybe add confirmed - I dont see any point in adding "called"...

Called is like - we tried to call and the owner didnt answer - so its still pending...

the call should be recorded in the coms log.

Personally with the whole automated sms system I dont really see the point in "Called" ...

I see Ben's logic.

Alan - you are correct as regards simply adding statuses - this will cause problems.

That is, new statuses require code (and probably report) changes.

I would suggest the following implemention:

a) add a 'Confirmed' checkbox to the act.customerAppointment archetype.  You can do this now - the only downside is that staff need to edit the appointment to change it. Build a report that can be used to show tomorrow's unconfirmed appointments. You will probably also want to tweak the expression used to display the appointment (via the Admin|Organisation|Shedule View screen) to indicate whether or not the appointment is confirmed.

b) In a future release, add a new button 'Confirmed' which will set the Confirmed checkbox to checked.  Add a new button 'Contact' which will bring up the Customers|Communications|Log|Phone screen so that you can record the unsuccessful attempt to confirm the appointment.

By the way, I checked with the Hong Kong practice manager about whether this would be useful to us. Turns out no - because a) we do not bother to confirm appointments for the street practice; b) although we do confirm appointments for the house call business, we schedule these through Google Calendar and not OpenVPMS.
