[General Discussion] open vpms for referral practice

Hi, Does vpms cater for referral practice. My specific requirements on top of general invoicing and workflow management are: Ability to link a vet and clinic to the animal as well as the owners. Seemless extraction of clinical notes into referral letters/reports that can be faxed directly from the system - exportation of letters in the pdf format. Importation and storage of digital images into the patient file such that they can be included in the referral documentation - images to be permanently attached to the patient file. Documentation and storage of repetive tasks such as surgery reportsetc that can be attached to the clients notes. Thanks Sam

One thread/discussion that might be of some relevance is one about sharing clinic records electronically, http://www.openvpms.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= Matt

Re: open vpms for referral practice

Hi Sam, The current version of OpenVPMS does not provide a link between a patient and a referring veterinarian but this link can be readily added to the application. In fact this can be added without any additional programming just by defining a number of new archetypes and modifying the existing patient one. For example we could define two new customer types called Referring Vet and Referring Practice. We could then modify the patient to have a relationship to either or both a referring vet and a practice. Once we have released 0.3 onto the demonstration site I will do this so you can see how readily the information model can be changed to suit a particular practices requirements. It will actually be a good example for the project documentation as well. The creation and management of documents and multimedia attachments is inherent to the design of OpenVPMS and the next thing we will be working on in the 0.4 release of the application. I look forward to your input into this. Regards Tony
