iPhone and iPad OpenVPMS Users alert!

Some of you more tech savvy peeps may know this already but if you upgrade to iOS 10, you will lose the ability to connect to OpenVPMS on that device through the PTTP VPN connection - Apple have removed the PTTP VPN connection option.

They certainly told us they were going to do it, I just didn't see it until it was too late: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT206844

None of the other 3 VPN connections Apple make available under iOS 10 currently allow you (me anyway) to connect to OpenVPMS.

Is there anything that can be done about this?

Cheers,

Nick

Re: iPhone and iPad OpenVPMS Users alert!

Hi Nick,

I discovered this too late as well. This applies to the new Mac OS Sierra as well.

Edit: For connection via Mac OS I am using a paid program called "Shimo" at the moment. However this is not really an option to roll out for all computers connected to the network. I imagine there as similar options for ipads/iphones.

I was going to chat with my integrator about upgrading/changing the VPN connection to one of the compatible protocols.

I use L2TP over IPsec with no issues. I use a pre-share key and username and password authentication. Works on macOS Sierra and iOS 10

Re: iPhone and iPad OpenVPMS Users alert!

thanks Matt. How do you set that up?

Re: iPhone and iPad OpenVPMS Users alert!

Depends how you manage your vpn. My VPN server is on my router and it is setup there.

To connect you just connect the same way you would have with your ppp connection.

Sorry that's vague but there are so many variables. You can contact me personally if you want more specific info.
