[Patient Module] Patient Searches

Hi Guys, The developers and I have been looking at the patient selector and have a question for the users. Currently, if there is a currently selected customer, the patient selector will automatically list all patients that have a patientowner relationship to that customer. Would it be better if it listed all patients with any relationship to that customer i.e owner, location, referrer etc ? Similarly we could add a relationship type selector in the patient selector so you can choose what type of relationships you are interested in, defaulting to owner or all. Thoughts ? Regards Tony

Re: Patient Searches

Hi Tony, I would favour a default to owner relationship with an option to use a selector to look at other relationships, particularly location as we often have different members of a household giving us their own details for a dog that may have been presented in someone else's name. Am I right in assuming that a location relationship would look at all patients at that particular address? I imagine this would be useful for agistment and breeding establishments as well. On the other hand if it always brought up all of the animals it might be too big a list to trawl through. How does everyone else see it? Regards PeterG

Re: Patient Searches

Hi Peter, Location relationships are added explicitly in the patient or the customer using a relationship type of Patient Location rather tha Patient Owner and link the patient to a another customer which is where the patient is located. The contacts within that customer can be utilised to get the physical location of the patient. In large animal/equine scenarios it is typically a customer where the animal is agisted (i.e stud etc). In a small animal scenario it is can be used to nominate a carer, kennel etc. In a small animal environment I expect the incidence of different locations to owners may be small so bringing up a list populated with both should not increase the list size overly. I think the advantage is if a patient location customer brings the patient in you will be able to select them and find the patient in the list and then readily identify the owner (from the patient owner relationship) for billing purposes etc. The same applies when we add other relationship types (referrer etc). Regards Tony

Re: Patient Searches

Hi guys, My feeling is that different use cases apply to each suggestion. ie. When a new patient comes in the front door, demonstrating as many relationships as possible is not a bad idea for a receptionist to have ready access to related queries a custoimer may have. eg. "Oh by the way is my other dog up to date? etc etc" However in other defined workflows eg. Billing after entering an animal history a more cutback approach is appropriate. I feel that if we could define a default relationship to show, then users could customise this aspect according to their own tastes (ie. If only a single relationship is ever utilised ina particular practice, then this is the only relationship that shows and other relationships can be displayed if specifically requested). If easy, the functionality should be there and then user interface customisability applies? Matt
