Anyone Using VetS8 by Methsof?

Just had a "cold call from an Arthur at Methsof about electronic S8 drug register software which he says integrates with OpenVPMS providing automatic electronic record keeping for your S8s.

Is anyone using VetS8?

Yeah they cold called me as well - I asked him where he got my information.  He said he is going through a list of vet practices -

I point blank asked how much it costs ...and he weaseled out of it.

He didn't have any qualms about telling me the price - $249 plus GST pa for 1200 transactions per year, $349 pa unlimited.  It is also writ large on the web page linked in my first post.

Re: Anyone Using VetS8 by Methsof?

I called them after seeing an article in a magazine. I'm in as soon as they have approval by the VPB (or health department or whoever it is) that ticks this off in NSW. He told me that it worked with openVPMS so someone out there must be using it already??

It seems like a quite elegant solution.

We are the beta guinea pigs. Seems to be working quite well so far. The real test will be getting NSW Dept of Health approval so we can ditch the old paper logbooks.

Re: Anyone Using VetS8 by Methsof?

Dear All,

We came very close to installing it.

We had the program - was free as part of a deal. We did not quite bother going the next step with our IT guy to get it working.

The reason.. perhaps I'm old fashion or just lazy, but one had to accurately record on the invoicing the S8 used and then it automatically was recorded on VetS8.  This is great idea... in theory. We do accurately record all drugs given esp. S8s on their anaesthetic sheet and then the nurses religiously record drugs used and hound the vet to signature the entry in the S8 book.  But most procedures, ie sedations, anaesthetics, etc etc are invoiced as an item and not drug used. ie  So it mean double entry into the accting for that patient.

The S8 book just seemed a lot simpler and easier. AND I did not have to get my IT man to do what he needed to do to get the program working.

Re: Anyone Using VetS8 by Methsof?

Hi,

We are thinking of using this for a short time until we install CubeX at our second location.

I have just done the training and have a few queries on the program that they couldn't answer.

Is anyone using this at a multi-location business? I was trying to explain to them how we ONLY want the transactions from ONE location to go through to VetS8, not all of the locations we have. He didn't think that was possible. If it's not, then we will need to delete a lot of transactions.

He doesn't think there is a way to automatically include a hub waste into the medications. Does anyone know if there is, or do we need to do manual adjustments?

Thanks,

Greta

Re: Anyone Using VetS8 by Methsof?

Hi Geeta,

We have multiple sites, and are not yet using for a few reasons; the main one is that templates apply everything.

  • We use a lot templates in our products to help standardise and improving invoicing.  The downside of this is that currently when you chose a template it will apply everything, and then we need to delete the items that we don't want and adjust the dose (which is how OpenVPMS works currently) - If you are using VetS8, as soon as the item is added to invoice in OpenVPMS (even before you apply / save / chose in progress on the invoice, the items are sent through to VetS8 with the maximum value that you had in your template.)
    • This means that we would need to double handle many / most S8 items in invoices, and given that we include S8s in every premed, then this would create a lot more work for the vets.
    • This could be improved with this potential project (yet to be costed or fully defined, though I think it could be) http://www.openvpms.org/forum/possible-estimate-and-template-enhancements

Really interested in others thoughts, and how those using VetS8 get around this issue.

Thanks

David

Re: Anyone Using VetS8 by Methsof?

We're a single location practice but are using it successfully. We use templates to charge the S8's but VetS8 doesn't read the invoiced medications until they are saved by pressing apply or OK so doses can be changed. If the medication has been saved and the dose is changed in openVPMS it will not change in vetS8 but can be manually changed in vetS8.

We're using 1.9 with the dose calculations so adding a template is a quick and easy way to get the entries done. VetS8 for us has been a big time saver and more importantly it is accurate!

Any enries that do go though from openVPMS that don't get used are just discarded from the list.

VetS8 has software that sits on a windows computer and reads the openVPMS database looking for S8 products. We have a ubuntu machine that openVPMS runs on and the software just reads it from a windows computer. Because it's just an sql query Greta they should be able to modify it to just look at 1 location, but I guess it depends on whether the query is able to be configured at all.

What do you mean by waste hub?

Re: Anyone Using VetS8 by Methsof?

I read it wrong- hub waste- I get you now.

It hasn't been an issue for us. When you do an audit you would just include it as a manual adjustment with a note. It's all audited in the software.
