Just for future reference I have moved the answer to this question to the users rather than the developers mailing lists.

I assume you mean is it possible to modify the invoice printouts to group the invoice items by product type or some other category ?

If so then this should be possible by editing the invoice report and invoice item sub report templates to group the items by the product type or other product category.
