New Forum

Hi Everyone,

A number of OpenVPMS members have indicated to me that the posts in the users forum and list get quite technical at times due to people trying to install OpenVPMS for the first time on various operating system. The questions are not really related to development so don't belong in the developers forum but are also not really relevant to the majority of users.

I am wondering if we should add a new forum and list specifically related to implementation (installation and setup) type topics and leave the the Users forum as a place to discuss application specific topics such as how to use the software, bugs, new features etc.

What do people think ?

Cheers
Tony

Sounds good. Even glancing at some of the more technical posts makes my head hurt!

New Forum

Sandra @ Bellarine

I think this would be a good idea.

changes to the forums coming soon.

Coming soon:

-creation of more forums with a more targeted audience eg. newbie questions, installation problems, reporting problems. (please post your suggestions for forum categories)

-post via email to start a new thread

-subscribe to whichever forum categories you want and receive email notifications for new threads and comments in that category.

-improved formatting of the posts so they are more readable on the site and in your email reader

-manage your own content subscriptions through your account on the OpenVPMS website.

When these changes are implemented the current mailing list will become redundant. Plenty of warning will be given when this is going to happen. If you have any suggestions, objections or other comments please submit them now by replying to this or contact me directly.

Re: changes to the forums coming soon.

Cant wait :)

New implementor's forum

Hi all,

Today I have created a new forum (http://www.openvpms.org/forums/implementation/implementation) for discussion of the more technical aspects of OpenVPMS. This is for people who are installing and setting up OpenVPMS in practices. This new forum is not linked to any mailing lists, rather there is a new notifications system.

The notification system allows any community member who is interested in a particular subject to subscribe to posts in that individual forum. So for example if you want to receive posts from the implementors forum you can do so. In addition to receiving a notification you can post a reply to it via email by replying to the email notification you receive.

Down the track the notifications system will be used across all of the forums. Once this happens the forums can be forked into more refined subforums.

If you wish to start a new discussion in the forum you will need to visit http://www.openvpms.org/forums/implementation/implementation .

If you would like to receive notifications from the new implementor's forum login to the OpenVPMS site and follow the links to adjust the notifications settings on your account.

If you find any issues please send me an email: myoung[at]openvpms[dot]org
