What do you want to see in OpenVPMS 1.9?
Submitted by tanderson on Thu, 17/09/2015 - 12:54
Hi all,
now that OpenVPMS 1.8 is out, what new features would you like to see in the next major release, OpenVPMS 1.9?
The following features are currently included:
- Smart Flow Sheet integration - patients
- Product 'use only in templates' flag
- Default email contact
- Change medical records tabs and filters to not scroll with the content below
- Dose Calculation
- Product price rounding
- Sort charge and estimate items by template or product type
- Practice Location Branding
- Strikethrough for completed and cancelled appointments
Please see the project listing at http://www.openvpms.org/projects and have your say!
Thanks,
-Tim
PS - if you have contributed funds to a new feature, we can make a pre-release version available to you for testing purposes.
Re: What do you want to see in OpenVPMS 1.9?
client discounts
can we remove those if a client does not pay their account within a certain period of time, say 7 days?
and / or
only add the discount if they pay at the time of service (or some other easy way of rewarding the clients that pay on the day v's those that don't)
Re: What do you want to see in OpenVPMS 1.9?
Humm - in 1.8 and 1.9 (in its current state) the possibilities are:
a) when the customer pays, if it is immediately, give them a discount - ie if the invoice is $123, you could pay this with a $12.30 discount and $110.7 by credit card (or whatever)
b) the Customer Account Type allows you to add a penalty for overdue (== late) payment. See http://www.openvpms.org/documentation/csh/1.8/admin/lookup/customerAccou...
Note that even if you run a standard monthly accounting cycle, you can set the overdue days to a shorter period - say 7. When when you run the End Period/Send Add processing in Reporting|Debtors any stuff outstanding more that 7 days will generate Debit Adjustment transaction (and you probably want to use a % rather than a fixed amount)
Since this overdue processing is linked to the account type, you could move your big-spenders to another account type so that you don't hit them with overdue fees.
I think b) is the best - just put a big notice in the waiting room "Best to pay immediately - late payments (over 7 days) will be charged a 10% fee".
If you really want to do a) then it is going to be labour intensive. To automate the 'give discount if paying immediately' is more difficult that it appears because the payment logic would need to be adjusted to look at what invoices are outstanding and calculate some % for each amount outstanding over N days. It is feasible but you really need an 'early payment discount' project to do this.

Re: What do you want to see in OpenVPMS 1.9?
charging "late fees" is circling the scary drain of, "providing financial service advice"et al.
I would be careful and get advice before going down that path. One clever client could make life challenging. And there are plenty of people out there who work in that industry and they may be your clients.
Re: What do you want to see in OpenVPMS 1.9?
Hi,
One thing that would help our check out process a lot would be a slight tweak on the recent addition to the "Charges" tab. The "Customer Notes" is useful for the receptionists to look at, but the problem is that nothing flags it as having any text in the box so they never check it. Can we have something like a flashing Customer Notes tab to indicate that the text box has been altered?
Thanks

Re: What do you want to see in OpenVPMS 1.9?
Trevor - the Customer Notes facility is designed to enable the vet to put notes about patients on the invoice - below is a sample of the standard 1.9 invoice from my test system (see http://www.openvpms.org/documentation/csh/1.9/admin/template/letterhead for how its done).
The Customer Notes facility is not designed to provide internal communication about the customer.
What you might consider doing is using the alert facility. Create an alert called say Customer Note - when something needs doing regarding the customer, create the alert and set its reason and notes fields as required.

The ability to minimise an email you are drafting so that you can refer back to the history if needed.
Otherwise you need to run two screens and we are too stupid to do that ;)
Re: What do you want to see in OpenVPMS 1.9?
Garry - we are too close to the 1.9 release to implement this. However, the 1.9 email templating facility means that one can pull chunks of the medical records into the email. Also the ability to set an email template to be used to generate a covernote when something is Print|Mail'ed means that one can automate much of what I suspect you do manually. Can you describe what you do manually?
