[Financial Module] computing sales tax

I can see the GST of 10% in the sample date. In the US, sales tax rates vary per state and by locale. Do you think it's feasible to allow the sales tax to be set per clinic? That way the clinic's address determines the tax rate. For example, a clinic in North Carolina is subject to a tax rate of 6.75%, but a New York clinic (depending on locale) might be 8.375%. I'm no expert on it, but I thought services might be sales tax exempt, so an invoice that breaks out products and services separately would only have tax applied to the products. I'll have to check that. Does that sound familiar to any other US forum readers? I haven't done a deep dive on this in the data - can you flag an item on the invoice as non-taxable? That may not be the way taxes are adminstered in AU, so it may not be possible in the app at this point. Thanks, Lee

Tax Calculations

Hi Lee, Currently you can set tax rates (and multiple there of) against practices, product types, products and customers. The way it calculates tax when charging out a particular product is the following. 1. Get any taxes defined against the product 2. If no product taxes get any taxes defined for the product types set for the product. 3. If no taxes default to the taxes associated with the practice. 4. If the customer being charged has any taxes to exclude then remove these from the list of taxes calculated from 1-3. 5. Calculated the total tax on the product using the final list of taxes. I think this may work for many geographic tax schemes. Only thing we may need to add is ability to check customer billing address to determine and state or regional tax to be charged. Is this correct or is that determined by the clinic location as you suggest ? Regards Tony
