1.7 Alpha - readme.txt upgrade instructions

I think that the readme.txt file needs to be modified to explicitly list the upgrade (as opposed to the install) process.

Suggestion: renumber 2 (Testing the installation) as 1.7; then inset a new 2 Upgrading.

Move into this, the upgrade bit of 1.5.

I suspect that 2 needs to cover:

  • unpack the zip
  • delete the <tomcat> openvpms directory and replace the .war
  • if you are running Kettle, upgrade its libraries
  • run archload to upgrade the archetypes
  • ?? how does one get new reports - if manually how to know which are new/revised
  • upgrade compatibility - ie can one go from say 1.5 to 1.7
  • What to do if you have local version of messages.properties, default.style, propercase.properties

Re: 1.7 Alpha - readme.txt upgrade instructions

Theres no good way of updating reports at present.

Most sites customise reports so the ones shipped in the release are only really useful to new sites.

You can go through the JIRAs to determine which reports have been updated for a particular release.

If you can come up with a new readme.txt, I'll apply the change.

Re: 1.7 Alpha - readme.txt upgrade instructions

Tim A - sorry for the delay - I finally got around to generating a version of the readme.txt incorporating a specific upgrade section and a couple of other minor tweaks. (see attached)

It will need your input in section 2.1 (Release Compatibility) as I have no understanding of whether one can jump from 1.5 or earlier to 1.7.

Also the new section 5 needs to be reviewed by a Mac/Safari person.

Re: 1.7 Alpha - readme.txt upgrade instructions

Tim A - looks v.good. Sorry I forgot the archload in the upgrade step - I normally don't need this because of the RxWorks conversion which does a complete database rebuild everytime I run it (which is also why I did not even think of the database backup step).
