Appointment types

Hi all,
I am trying to set appointment times so that we are not constantly getting overbooked with surgeries.
Currently our surgery bookings appear on the schedule in a surgery column. We have the appointment type set as "surgery" default which takes 1x15 min slot. I want to create a whole list of procedures with default times so that when surgeries are booked, we get to a certain time and cannot book any more.
I have created a new appointment type, then gone to the schedule view, and added the appointment type, logged in and logged out, and then tried to make an appointment in the surgery column and there are no new appointment types. What am I doing wrong?

Answer : I was not doing anything wrong, it worked on the third time I logged out, so maybe just had to flick over on the server??

Another question
I have sorted all the appointment types out. Now coming to booking them in, even though I have no defaults set for appointment types, the program seems to be selecting a random default. This is consistent within the one column, but inconsistent between columns. It does not seem to be related to the alphabet or the number of slots allocated. I have been through and checked the defaults 3 times. Any suggestions?

Re: Another question
Surgery appointment scheduling
Hi Amanda,
We do this too. We only have 4 surgery types though which equate to 15 mins, 30mins, 1hr, 2hrs. The categories are prefixed by a number.
eg. "1 Small surgery (15 mins)"
This way the nurse making the appoint can type a single number, 1 - 4 and get a surgery type without going into a list. We do this to save time whilst making a surgery appointment.
We also use a print out of this schedule the night before to prep the reception with all the paperwork for the following days admits.

Yes - the problem was that I had set no defaults, so I now have a default as "select procedure". Good idea Matt, but I had already entered several types, so I think we will try that first and if we throw hands in air in a few months, then revert to your system.
