Benchmarking
I thought some of you Open users might wish to run some benchmarking of financials.
I initially thought the people in WA might want to share. The project I am working on uses the Species Sales report and the Patient Marketing Export Report. We wanted to investigate how well or poorly the different species(cats and dogs essentially) were going in our practice. In particular, whether there was any effect of having a cat shelter so close by too.
To get a good picture to compare, practices need to have a similar philosophy about how you bill items, eg surgery patients get billed hospital charges, theatre fees, drug fees, surgery fees etc, and not just lump charges that include all these things.
From there, you can compare the percentage of visits for cats or dogs, versus total. Then compare the different department categories(eg surgery, anaesthetic, vaccination etc) between the species too.
If the reporting is all done on a spreadsheet and kept in terms of percentages, then no sensitive financial data needs to be shared!
Happy to hear everyone's thoughts and also happy to hear from others interstate.
Re: Benchmarking
Hi Garry,
I would be happy to share info and compare benchmarks, sounds very useful,
Ralph
Re: Benchmarking
Here is the chart of what we ended up with. I can email anyone who wants it, the spreadsheet, but it appears I can not attach it here, pity. I have removed the $$ amounts and a few other items from the spreadsheet, but we were particularly looking for the sales as $ percentages for cats, campared to dogs. Once people had logged all the numbers into it, we could simply share the final percentage collumns.
