Brand new

Hello OV people!

My name is Simon Lubans, I'm a small animal vet based in Newcastle NSW and I have decided to take the plunge into becoming a solo mobile vet practitioner. I was chatting with a friend who is retired vet colleague Ross Beatty and he suggested I try using OpenVPMS as my data platform as he had been using it for years and was very happy with its service and performance.

To be honest my computer literacy is minimal and I feel quite overwhelmed by the prospect of getting started and installing the program on my Microsoft Surface Pro 6. I have very few programs installed on my device and from what I have seen I would need to install multiple programs to get OV to function.

If someone could help me I would be immensely grateful for the assistance.

Many thanks in advance and kind regards.

Simon

Re: Brand new

Hi Simon,

there are a number of installers who can help you. See the https://openvpms.org/support-contacts page for details.

Re: Brand new

Thank you for that really quick reply!

Unless you totally advise against it, do you have any tips on how I could attempt it by myself?

Re: Brand new

There's installation instructions here: New Installation

In general however, I would recommend getting someone to provide a cloud-based install and configure it to match your needs.
OpenVPMS will happily run on a laptop, but its harder to share access with other users (e.g. someone doing customer admin tasks), and your data is less secure.
