I would like a cash drawer that opens when Open VPMS creates and pays an invoice.

I have a cash drawer that has a RJ 12 connector (although there is no where to plug this into where it will work).

This cash drawer will also work via a cash drawer trigger (either a USB or Serial).

Will Open VPMS recognise a USB cash drawer trigger?

Re: Cash Drawer

Hi Matt,

Currently OpenVPMS doesn't support triggered cash drawers.  It had been discussed in a previous post some time ago but no one had promoted the idea any further so it didn't progress.  Suggest you push on Users Forum (this post is on developers forums) and hopefully can get a project up and funded.

If implemented I think the most common approach to interfacing is to setup a printer that represents the cash drawer (this is cash drawer and os independent) and provide a printer drop down list in the Till information.  We would then send a string of characters (may also be defined in till information) to the printer to open the drawer as required. i.e. during payments, refunds, till clearing etc.

Cheers Tony

Re: Cash Drawer

Another approach would be to support cash drawers that can be accessed via the UnifiedPOS API. This is the industry standard for interfacing with POS systems.

A list of devices that support this standard can be found here. Not sure how up to date it is.
