Changes to Australia Post and the Potential Influence on Reminders

Given the recent slated changes to Australia Post ie

1. Increased local postage

2. Slower Postage unless you pay for a premium service.

I was wondering if it might not be a good idea to revisit reminder filtering.

What I mean is the possibilities of doing the following

1.  Force reminders to go via a specific method if available or only send reminders to go via a specific method.  ie SMS or Email 

I bring this up because we would ideally like to be able to send reminders out for products like the up and coming Bravecto and start sending reminders for GIT worming.  However it is pointless to send these via regular mail given the frequency and the delays.  So ideally I would like to specify that we send them only to clients that can recieve SMS or Email.  

The other option that has been used in our practice atleast already is the option to force reminders to go via mail despite the settings on a clients file - we use this for 2nd reminders occassionally - on the offchance that email settings have changed or are incorrect for an individual.

Any one have any thoughts?
