demo version

I am having a LOT of trouble downloading a version I can view and play around with - I don't understand any of the instructions on the download page - is there a "dummies" version that makes it easy?

Re: demo version

Hi,

If you want to play with the software I would strongly suggest using the demo system rather than trying to install the software and then do all the setup necessary to make it emulate a real system.

The installation process is documented and works but is not currently designed for end users without some level of computer expertise.

Cheers Tony

demo version

Hi Tony - thanks for your very fast response.  I am currently trying to play with the demo version, but having issues with that as well.  Do you have anyone that does house calls/demos for those of us that are trying desperately to jump off the rxworks ship?

Re: demo version

Hi Jane,

I can definitely understand that it can be difficult to evaluate software from a demonstration version. It is easier once you have had someone take you through the general functionality and then you can better explore the features.

Recently I presented OpenVPMS seminars in Sydney (thank you Novartis, Jim Thompson and the Sydney MPB) and Newcastle (Thanks David Tabrett and the Newcastle Branch of AVA) and I believe everyone who attended got a much better understanding of the project and the software capabilities.

I am wondering if people would be interested if I setup and presented a webinar (a seminar on the web). I have never developed and presented one of these but there are services on the Internet (i.e. GOTO Webinar by Citrix) that can facilitate it and I think this may be easier to organise and attend for many people. If it works we could possible do this regularly.

What do the community think about this and how many would like to participate ?

Cheers Tony

I would like to participate and evaluate.  Have attended a few webinars and they seem a good way to see and learn.  Alternately having someone walk you through a program via remote desktop is also useful.  You can also use something like Teamviewer.

webinar

I would be very interested in a "webinar".

Re: demo version

//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> Hi Jane, Adama and list, There is a growing community of users in Melbourne who I believe would be happy to show you their system in operation. In addition there are IT professionals skilled in its installation and implementation who will provide services for a fee. OpenVPMS really runs at two levels. The community with volunteers putting in many hours of work keeping the business functioning at an administrative level and also contributing ideas at a technical level and organising funding to make our wishlists come true. On the other hand we cannot do without the highly skilled professionals who are absolutely essential to getting any IT project up and running well. Remember, the aim of our project is to create really good software, not cheap software. So even though the cost to use the software (i.e. the annual subscription) is extraordinarily low you still have to invest in good equipment, proper IT support and staff training to ensure that you get the most out of OpenVPMS' features to make your practice work better for you. If you are wanting to just see if OpenVPMS might be a management software option for your practice then the community will be the best source of help but as most of us have practices to run a "house call" might be a bit difficult. Nevertheless someone might be able to jump on the phone and talk you through the demo or offer the aforementioned look at the system in operation. Regards Peter hah37@bigpond.net.au wrote:

Re: demo version

Hi everyone, It is perhaps worth reiterating at this point that practice management software is not like an application you buy in the shop and install, then use. Given the number of tasks we use practice management software for in an average vet clinic, pms solutions are necessarily complicated. Pretty much all practice management software requires IT support to install and configure. OpenVPMS is really no different.

Whilst OpenVPMS can be downloaded and installed, as a practice owner, I have to strongly recommend that people see IT support as an essential part of their budget when looking at software solutions. Not to do so results in people using the applications not as they were intended or at only a fraction of their capacity.

Thats my 2 cents
