Email Reminders

Hi,

Can someone please tell me what I have not set up when the following message appears when I ask to re-send an email reminder:

"Could not connect to SMTP host: localhost, port: 25;
nested exception is:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect"

I have followed all the direction in a previous posting from Tony to Sandra on setting it up.

Thanks, Nick

Re: Email Reminders

Hi Nick,

I think you may have the smtp mail server setting in the Practice information incorrect.  You have setup this as localhost I think and it should be the mail server for your local ISP. i.e mail.bigpond.com, smtp.internode.on.net etc

Sometimes these mail servers require authentication which requires some setup files in the application to be modified as per this post

Cheers

Tony

Re: Email Reminders

Hi Tony,

I have set up our email addresses as used in the Hospital in admin/organisation/practice but cannot see anywhere to setup smtp/port no - Ian suspects there may be somewhere in Open VPMS where this is set or does it have its own email server etc - I start getting lost here. Please advise.

Thanks, Nick

Re: Email Reminders

Hi Nick,

In Administration -> Oragnisation select your Practice Location and edit.  In there you will see a Mail Host field.  This needs to be set to a valid smtp server for OpenVPMS to send emails out.  Typically this is set to your Internet Service providers smtp server which Ian shoudl be aware of.

Cheers

Tony

Re: Email Reminders

Thanks Tony, just a bit of navigating through the different menus to get to it, now working fine.

On a similar topic is there an integrator in SA yet who can help me set up margins etc for printing client names and addresses on Post Card Reminders

Regards,

Nick

Re: Email Reminders

Hi Nick,

An integrator is essentially a hardware person who understands and maintains your network and its equipment to support the software systems you are running.  Some may or may not have have any specific OpenVPMS skills but I think should have a base understanding of the OpenVPMS software components and also potentially how to operate some things in order to diagnose specific problems.  I know a few of these in SA as you do :-)

An OpenVPMS implementer is someone who has specific skills in configuring and customising typically software, in this case OpenVPMS, for your practice needs.  They may not have a high level of technical skill so may rely on the integrator to assist with issues that are network or equipment specific.

In my experience the area where these two skills overlap the most is printing as it relies heavily on specific printer setup, operating system printer driver setup, network as well as software specific setup such as OpenVPMS report templates and template setup options.

It is rare to find one person who can do both so you typically need to work with two independent people and these people need to be willing to work together i.e no finger pointing just co-operation.

Anyway from the description of your issue it sounds like this is a report/document template formatting question so it would be best to contact your implementer first.

Cheers

Tony
