Firefox is already running error message

From time to time, I think a screen doesn't get shutdown properly at night and just gets switched off at the wall or something. It also happens if I go home with my laptop still running and logged into the system remotely.
Anyway. When you try to log in the next morning, you get a message telling you that an application of Firefox is still running and you will need to log back into that application to shut it down properly, or some such message. It doesn't seem to matter what you do, the error remains until some time in the future when it stops.
This last time I have turned the router and the modem off, turned/logged out of the terminal involved. Still won't work. I even stopped and restarted TomCat.
Re: Firefox is already running error message
A reboot usually fixes this on my laptop (I usually perform a cold boot rather than a restart).
Re: Firefox is already running error message
This is a firefox error and has nothing to do with Tomcat or Openvpms. Basically if firefox isnt shut down correctly it will leave a range of "locked files" on the system that when you go to start it up, the application detects they are already present wont overwrite them and then terminates with the error.

Happens to us too.... drives me mad, but has taught me to be fastidious about loggin out!
Re: Firefox is already running error message
Hi,
This is most likely dependent on the server setup. In the case of a terminal server if you permit multiple logins with the same user name you could have 2 or more users trying to use the same firefox profile and hence Firefox complains.
Typically the server should be setup to logout users terminal server sessions on disconnect or inactvity but I find this does not always work correctly. Something for Microsoft and your IT guys to answer unfortunately. :-)
Cheers Tony

Our I T guy fixed it and said it was because someone had downloaded a virus onto a terminal????
