There is possibly an infuriating problem with client numbers. I would like to know how many clients I have and also the number of new clients.

But I have found that when a new client is started the client number goes to 2 numbers above, not 1. Does that mean I have half the number given by the " client number". This is very annoying if correct.

If by 'client number' you are referring to the Id field on a customer, this cannot be used as an indicator for the number of customers you have.

Customer statistics can be found by running reports in Reporting - Reports:

For the total number of customers, run the Customer List Report
For the number of new customers from a certain date, run the Customer Acquisition Report

Not really your question but while we are on those particular two reports;

Another cool feature is to schedule them as jobs using the Administration->Jobs area and have them generated automatically and emailed.

The best report for this sort of stuff is the Key Performance Indicator Report - available in the release.

It produces a count of active customers as opposed to all customers and the change over time. It does patients and also invoice dollars. Overall a really great report.
