Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Has there been any move to integrate OpenVPMS with merchant services ? Either standard banks or new entrants such as Tyro ?

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Not at this stage. We did investigate Tyro, but they use a closed-source API which prevents it being integrated into OpenVPMS. This wouldn't prevent someone developing a Tyro plugin, but as far as I know, it hasn't been attempted as yet.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Hi, Could we look at the cost of a plugin for Eftpos integration - for companies like Tyro?  I have a number of users who are interested as are Tyro, so would be keen to know the cost of this development.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

We are looking to provide EFTPOS integration in the 2.0 release.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Tyro (merchant services / EFTPOS) told me yesterday they put money on the table to integrate their system with Open VPMS, but that it has not been taken up. Is this correct and is there any interest in this being pursued ? Integration would help our speed at point of sale and reduce incorrectly keyed in invoice amounts - both very worthwhile.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

We spoke to Tyro some time ago about their various integration options.
Their preferred approach doesn't fit well with the OpenVPMS architecture.

We would be more likely to implement a solution around APIs like those provided by PC-EFTPOS or Payment Express.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Sorry, what does that mean ? It will not happen in the foreseeable future ? Or never / impossible ?

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Tyro provides a number of integration methods:

  • Tyro iClient
This is the method Tyro wants us to use. It does part of the work in the browser, and part on the server. It is harder to plug in i.e. it makes it difficult to support multiple EFTPOS providers.
  • Web (Direct) Integration
This is the method we would prefer to use, as it allows us to do all work in the OpenVPMS server. It would make it easier to support multiple EFTPOS providers.

Last time I checked, Tyro didn't want us to use the Web Integration method, and there were licensing issues that prevented its use in an opensource project such as OpenVPMS.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Just to update this thread. We've had some more discussions with Tyro, so I expect some sort of integration will be possible for OpenVPMS 2.0.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Ok great - any idea of the time frame on that ?

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

If merchant services are to be incorporated into OVPMS... I'm just wondering at what level of PCI Security Council compliance a practice would need to be able to demonstrate. If any card information is being held on the local server, my reading is that it would make the practice a Level D Merchant and the security requirements are rather onerous.  Is the model being contemplated a much simpler system where no information is being held?  Even so, the requirements are far more extensive than simply having an approved and encrypted POS swipe or tap device.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

None, the model we are discussing doesnt involve storing any cc data

We are talking about having the SERVER(opevpms) pass the invoice total to a POS device (eftpos machine) and have the machine notify the server that the payment was successful.

Under this model

No sensitive data is ever held or even seen by OpenVPMS. This is the same as many POS systems use in your average shop/retailer.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Curious about this and if it could work would be keen to add $ to it.

How would this work with wireless EFTpos terminals?

Ie. Our front desk is 4 computer terminals and 3 eftpos units (all wireless).

Cheers,

Matt

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

It will require your merchant service provider to implement. Most have integrations to other POS systems. They will just need to intergrate with OpenVpms

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services

Any movement re integration with Tyro? Or others?

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Anyone using Tyro with OpenVPMS?

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

I will get onto Tyro about this

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

just so you are not screaming into the wind. We would be keen for this.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Tyro seem to be taking an interest again in integration, is Ben Charlton the best liason? Or other?

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Hi Jim,

I believe Tyro is fully aware of what is required to integrate their POS terminals with OpenVPMS.  Firstly the https://openvpms.org/project/eftpos-integration project needs to be funded in OpenVPMS.  It is costed and just needs funding.  Secondly Tyro need to implement a plugin for their specific payment service.  They already have a budgetary cost for this work.

Think really up to the users of OpenVPMS and Tyro to make this happen.  :-)

Cheers
Tony

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

ok - we will get the ball rolling on this and have pledged towards the eftpos integration project.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Tyro are nibbling at this project after intermittent conatct over the last 3 years

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Tyro-OpenVPMS integration: Anyone aware of the current status of this project? I know talks have been happening.

Tyro say: "Not sure when this could be. It’s entirely up to OpenVPMS at this point in time."

Is the obstacle to integration financial ie unfunded or technical?

Have Tyro pledged the remaining funding, or are we waiting on OpenVPMS users to do so?

We have committed a fair bit to OpenVPMS on other projects recently to the tune of $5000 (Deputy-OpenVPMS integration) and I would expect a well funded organisation like Tyro should be able to cover the costs of this in view of the potential vet market they could then access. However may be prepared to consider.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Hey guys,

Contactless transactions have become incredibly important for us in the last few months with COVID.

We would love to see this underway to reduce our girls not having to handle the terminals.

Is there anything we can do? Money, phone calls?

I just contacted Tyro for a quote. Are they the only players with an API in this space?

Cheers

Matt

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

We would benefit from this.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Are there any OpenVPMS users who currently don't use Tyro for EFTPOS/merchant services and who would shift from their current bank to tyro if this integration were completed?

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Unless their merchant rates were off market, for sure.

My response from Tyro was pretty lacklustre.

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

We are member of Independent Vets Australia (IVA) and Tyro is one of their industry partners. Contacted Tyro a couple of years ago and had to haggle with them a bit before they agree to 'match' but not beat my ANZ merchant rates, so we did not end up switching because: 1) same day settlement is only possible into a Tyro bank account; 2) there was no cost benefit at the time.

Kind regards,

Anthony (ActiVet)

Re: Integration of OpenVPMS with merchant services eg Tyro

Hi,

We have developed a EFTPOS plugin to another payment service and are in the process of testing it prior to introducing it to a number of beta test sites.  If you are interested in being a beta tester or in the plugin in general please contact me at tony[at]verticalconnect[dot]net.

Cheers
