New Feature? Display basic patient information while invoicing
Greetings All,
I've been unanimously asked by the clinic staff for a new feature that I think would actually be worthwhile. It seems that while creating an invoice through Customer > Charges > New > Invoice, that there is no easy access to basic patient information such as age, weight, alerts, etc. (see attached). When creating an invoice, and particularly while writing a new prescription where something like weight or age might be important, one has to exit the invoice window, look up the patient info, then return to invoicing. The request is whether the basic patient information box that often appears in the left panel might also be displayed during invoicing (either in the left panel or in extra real estate in the invoicing window itself). The link to the which patient's information to display would be made by the normal patient pull-down selection during the line-item invoicing... and might change if the invoice contains items for more than one patient.
Seems like a useful addition.
Thanks,
Sam

Thanks for bringing this one up, we definitely need it too!
We have been desperate for patient weight (at the very least) to be displayed during invoicing. This would save lots of clicking back and forth to calculate drug doses for while dispensing. Or awkwardly asking the client their pet’s weight over and over again.
Thank you!

Correct me if I am wrong but if you create a new charge and then add an Item for a patient which requires a label when the medication window displays it shows you the current weight... It would be nice if the patient selected was shown in the context area...

You are absolutely correct! At least it is there in v 2.0.2 which we are running. It's probably been there for a while and yet no one has ever noticed. I'll definitely point that out.
Thanks!

Ah... so I passed that tidbit on but was shown that there is another common situation that is still problematic. As correctly stated above, when you add an item "for a patient which requires a label" then the weight appears, but in the case where the dose has to be selected from the product window first, the weight is not shown. In these cases, dose depends on weight, and only after the dose is selected does the weight appear in the print label window... too late (see attached).
So I guess we're back to the original idea of seeing if the patient info can be shown in the context area (or elsewhere if there are focus issues) and tied to the patient name pulldown.
Thanks,
Sam

Have you looked at weight-based templates and product doses?
For the former, the template includes products by weight. You charge the template rather than the individual products, and the patient weight is used to automatically select the appropriate product.
For the latter, the medication lists the doses by species and weight. When charged, the quantity is calculated from the patient weight, drug concentration and rate for the patient species.
The only requirement for these is that the patient has an up-to-date weight recorded.

Here is a mockup of what such a feature could look like:
The info button displayed next to the Patient field would display the patient summary.
It would be available in all editors where a patient can be selected (e.g, invoices, estimates, appointments).

Hi Tim... thanks for this!
I asked the staff about whether this would suit their needs and they were quite enthusiastic about it. I also asked whether it needed to display any special behavior, e.g., be dragable, remain on top, or whether simply reviewing it before going to the product pulldown would suffice, and they felt that nothing special was needed.
I didn't think about it in other situations like estimates and appointments, but I could see that it would be a real help there as well.
Excellent. I'd be interested in seeing whether anyone else felt it needed some special behavior... otherwise, I think you've nailed it.
Thanks again for taking a look.
