OPEN Using ipad

Hi,

I am wondering whether anyone is using an ipad via a remote connection to access OPEN. I know we have a windows terminal server but I am not totally the computer tech girl.

Thanks

Bernie

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Hi Bernie,

I have tried a number of different ways. I would recommend using logmein ignition. It's a pricey app but worth the spend. It is easy to install and setup, easy to use, has good security, and takes care of all the complex stuff for you. There are other more techy ways to get access but this is definately the easiest.

All you need to do is install logmeinfree on a computer at the practice. I'm not sure how it would work in a terminal server environment though.

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Hi Bernie,

As you probably already know you can access OpenVPMS in your network directly using Safari on the Ipad.  If your integrator has setup VPN access (Routing and remote Access on windows) then you can use the Ipad VPN access to allow you to securely connect to your network remotely and then access OpenVPMS as you would in the clinic.  Here is a link to some information on setting up VPN's on Ipad's.  http://jimiz.net/blog/2010/04/ipad-vpn-configure-and-setup/

Your integrator will need to provide you with some of the specific connection information.

Cheers Tony

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Thank you Matt & Tony,

I will have a chat with IT Rob about the VPN. Tony I am not sure how to access thru Safari if you have some easy way that would be great. I have the RDP App which is good to access with but hard to manouver the screen around once in RDP Access so I will have a play with the other options/ideas.

Thanks Again,

Bernie

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Hi Bernie,

If in the clinic and Ipad atatched through wireless then shoudl be just a matter of opening Safari and in the address typing http://<server>:8080/openvpms where <server> is the name or IP address of your server which Rob can give you.  No RDP or any other application required. :-)

Cheers Tony

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Hi Tony,

Unfortunately it was not as simple as that. Rob dropped by to have a look for me and said he could not connect in this way from any of the computers and he wondered if there may be a setting in open that could be blocking access?

Thanks

Bernie

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Hi Bernie,

No setting in open but your server could have a firewall setup which woudl prevent access to the 8080 port from other computers on the network .. if so Rob needs to add an exception on this port ..

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Can confirm the direct method via Ipad connected to local wireless network and at home via VPN works fine for us.

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Sorry to keep bringing this up...

Our IT guy is struggling to get the ipad to access the server. We have only tried locally to start with.

He wondered how others may have had their system set up - whether a workspace or domain.

Thanks heaps

Bernie

Re: OPEN Using ipad

Hi Bernie,

I think it may be best if your IT guy got some external advice as this is actually a server/network configuration issue outside of the scope of this forum.  Happy for him to contact me directly if required.

Cheers Tony
