Key: OVPMS-1277 URL: https://openvpms.atlassian.net/browse/OVPMS-1277 Project: VPMS Web Application Issue Type: Improvement Components: User Interface Affects Versions: 1.6 Reporter: Tim Anderson Assignee: Tim Anderson

At present, only a single email address may be entered when emailing. This should be enhanced to allow multiple email addresses to be entered, separated by a semicolon.

I'd also like to see a :bcc field added (perhaps even in the setup area as a default); I would like some confirmation that a sent email has in fact made it into cyberspace.

A :bcc email coming back to me would give me an effective time/date stamp.

I ask as we've sent referral histories off for clients, and have then been asked to resend by the specialist practice as they have no record of the email - I have no way of knowing where the problem is.

(Actually a "platinum" option might be to have a record of email sent create a patient visit/note, even just time/date, subject title, recipient).

We can certainly have a bcc or cc field, but it doesn't tell you if the intended recipient has received the message.

One approach is to use gmail as your email provider as described by Matt here: http://www.openvpms.org/forum/email-alerts#comment-5183

All messages sent by the practice will appear in the Sent folder.

The idea of logging a note in the patient history when someone is mailed is a good one. It would need to be a new note type, so it could be excluded from general patient notes.

True, but at least I know the email has successfully exited my system and "is out there" in cyberspace working its way through the email system; I also have a record of time and date of sending.

If I've messed up the recipient's address, I'll receive a "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender" error in my inbox.

Just to chime in. SMS and email logs should be recorded in the history. They are a client communication or a communication involving that client. for example we are starting to email invoices, discharge notes, etc to clients. I don't really see why it needs to be a new note type though. Seems to overly complicate things.

Ideally for us when we sent an email a new note would automatically be generated that said something along the lines of:
- "date & time - email "patient medical record" and files "rad1, rad2, rad 3" sent to "x[at]y[dot]com"

SMS note would also have the message sent.

Ability to send to multiple email addresses would be great as well.

I suggested making it a new note type so that when you generate a patient history for emailing to a 3rd party, you could choose to filter the information out.

This could also help reporting e.g. you could develop a report which listed all communication for a particular customer or patient.
