openVPMS in the USA

Hello,
I am a veterinarian in Ohio (USA). Our clinic is very frustrated with our current veterinary practice management software, so we have been looking into our options. We love what we read about OpenVPMS, and are impressed by the demo. I have a background in bioinformatics, so I am somewhat computer savvy. I installed openVPMS, on a Windows 7 PC, to see how it would go. It seems to run very well, and the install went smoothly.
I have many questions about the use of openVPMS in the USA (taxes, addresses, ...). I also have questions about data migration.
Is there anyone that provides support to US openVPMS users? How doable is openVPMS implementati for a US veterinary practice as things stand currently?
Thanks!

is a good place to start reading. I am not aware of anyone who specifically supports the US as yet...(we really need a Champion over there) as well as some IT people who are capable of providing support.
There are some US practices already using Open and I am sure if you search the forums here you will find them quite easily - you can send them a message through this website I believe.

Re: openVPMS in the USA
As Ben indicates you can contact members through the forum. Two would be worth talking to using the links http://www.openvpms.org/users/mckelvey/contact and http://www.openvpms.org/users/pstadler/contact - the first is a practice in Canada and the second a long time user in PA. Both will be able to tell you how to bend OpenVPMS to suit the US/Canadian situation.
Migration: a couple of years ago I migrated my son's data (10 years worth) from RxWorks. You don't say what system you are currently using, but if its RxWorks I have a whole lot stuff you can have. Even if its not RxWorks, you are welcome to peruse the stuff. Because the business runs 24/7/365 we needed to be able to shutdown RxWorks at 2am and come up live on OpenVPMS at 6am. This was achieved.
A large amount of the work was associated with data cleanup (as opposed to data migration) - for example the breed Shih Tzu was spelt 8 different ways, and the locality Shau Kei Wan (where the practice is), 10 different ways. If you are coming from a system that is loose with validation, then you will have this problem.
If I can help, yell. Regards, Tim G

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have contacted the Canadian and US users you recommended.
We are currently using IntraVet, a server based software that runs on MySQL. We run daily backups for the database to a set of external HDs. I am not sure where to start when evaluating our data for migration.
