Opinions regarding the "Search Identities" option in Customer/Patient searches

Hi everyone,

In 1.5 as per the devlopment project http://www.openvpms.org/project/patient-and-customer-search-id

we will be able to search by OpenVPMS IDs for customer and patients.

While we have been testing Version 1.5 beta we have observed occasional confusion created in the following scenario;

Someone will start their search with a number (either accidentally or on purpose) in the Name box. OpenVPMS detects that a number has been entered so it automatically turns on Search Identities. The confusion occurs if the user then tries to enter a text search, it will continue to search identities and hence the text search will not produce any results.

Is this happening to anyone? Is it happending with a frequency that anyone is bothered by? Or is the advanatge of not having to click Search Identities worth the occasional confusion?

Any and all opinions welcome.

Cheers,

Matt C

Re: Opinions regarding the "Search Identities" option in ...

I really like being able to search by id without having to check anything but I must say I have been caught a few times where the search by ID has been checked (without me realising) and I haven't been able to work out why I can't find a product. After several searches I figure it out.

Is there any reason the reverse can't occur ie. it detects it's not a number so turns the search by id off?

The advantage of not having to click Search Identities is definitely worth the occasional confusion in my opinion.
