Price Import Export System

Tested a price import /export this AM

A few wierd things

1. You cant export the markup....which means I have to calculate it via the spreadsheet and reapply to add the new Unit Price

2. If you arent changing the Unit Price just the Cost Price and expecting the Open system to update the new Unit Prices based on existing markups it doesnt work.  In fact the system reports no price changes.  In this case I had deleted the current unit price so as to force just an update to the cost.

3.  The system should report the tax rate being applied to products - so as users can either manual create a price update equation or recognize they need to adjust Unit Price for tax.

Suggestions

1. Either allow exporting of the markup or have the price update system when either cost or nett is left blank use the existing markup to calculate the other.

2. Consider allowing the system to adjust 2 of the 3 pricing paramaters. and causing an error if the user adjusts all three...ie u can change cost price and markup but if you do you cant have a unit price. The system then calculates Unit Price.

3. If you allow markup changes you must also allow max discount changes.

4. Allow exporting of other product details including Identities.  (will assist when price matching from external catalogues.)

Re: Price Import Export System

I would also add that I would have the system default max discount to the inverted relationship discounts have with markup to avoid clinics losing money. and selling items for less than cost.

Ie if Markup is 100% - Max discount defaults to 50%

Markup 50% Max Discount Defaults to 33%

ie Max Discount = 1/(1 + (markup/100))

This still allows users to edit max discount but it sets a default

Re: Price Import Export System

The idea of the import/export is that the spreadsheet does the work of the price manipulation, rather than OpenVPMS.

The original specification for the project is here.

A separate project to do price manipulation within OpenVPMS hasn't got any takers yet.

The markup isn't included as it can be derived in the spreadsheet.

With regards to tax, this is an oversight. If you're OK with a tax rate column that:

  • is the total of all taxes for the product
  • is read-only (i.e. cannot be changed on import)

then this can probably go into 1.7.
