Printing reminders

This may havebeen discussed before, but as new users we are struggling to print our reminders. We send Postcards for single reminders and a Grouped reminder A4. The problem seems to be with the two page sizes. They all want to print from the postcard tray on our printer. We can not seem to get them to go to two diffent trays. Is any one else sending Postcards and letters? If so whats your setup like?

Hi,

We use postcards but all our reminders go on the postcards, we don't use any A4 or A5.

As the reminder template is set up to go to a certain printer/tray, I don't know how you would get to nominate a second printer when a reminder gets grouped. I don't know if this is possible, maybe Tony would be able to answer this?  Sorry, I'm not much help.

Hi Di,

It is definitely possible to send individual reminders to one printer and grouped reminder sto another.  In the Grouped reminder template you need to set the printer to direct these print outs to. 

The issue is more if you are using the same printer for both how do you nominate which tray to use.  Now OpenVPMS does allow you to specify a tray in this same area but experience indicates that it is a bit hit and miss as to the tray name and whether thsi will work.  Unfortunately this is more a printer driver and printer issue then a OpenVPMS one.   To resolve thsi my suggestion is to create a printer for each tray the printer has.  In the printer driver for each printer you can nominate the tray to use and indicate the other trays as not available just to make sure.  For example:

 Office - Tray1(Cards)

Office - Tray2(A4)

Office - Tray3(A5)

They are actually the same physical printer but setup to reference the individual trays.

Your integrator (hardware guy) should be able to set these up on your server and then it is just a matter of setting the printer in your card and grouped reminder templates.

Our reminders are setup like that already, but after generating the reminder run it asks for a printer option and which ever tray you choose ALL reminders print from that tray regardless of the settings for individual reminders. Our printer is setup in such a way that you have to choose Postcard or A4 tray.

Hi Di,

I woudl say that one of your reminder or group reminder template shave the interactive flag set and this is causing the issue. Uncheck any interactive setting for the reminder templates and then do a small batch test and see if that fixes the issue.  :-)
