Questions regarding OpenVPMS

Hi guys,

I am looking at OpenVPMS as our next move for veterinary practice management and have a few questions regarding implementation.

1. With regard to installation.  I am assuming the installation steps need only be done on the "server" or in my case my "test" machine.  The clients(ie browser sessions) do not need any software installed. I am assuming that unless I wish to edit .odt files etc...Open office particularly doesnt need to be installed on the client.

2. Is the software development generally compatible.  If not what do find the lag time say when a new JRE is released what is the update approach, especially give Sun's love of ensuring the java update service is running and checking automatically for updates to the java engine's installed.  I am actually running the my test implementation on Tomcat 7 with JRE 1.6, OOO 3.3 and Jasperreports 4.x. At the moment it seems fine.  (Even though I am well aware that the implementation guide for runnin on an xp machine is different to this)

3. Is there a archetype framework document anywhere, I get the mysql/java implementation you used, and I have read Tony's original reasons for its choice, but given that really to understand the database your using really requires the archetype to be understood.  I couldnt seem to find any document with for want of a better term "data map" showing data structure it database terms.

Anyhow thats a start.

Cheers

Ben

Re: Questions regarding OpenVPMS

1. Correct.

2. Personally I'd disable automatic java updates, and only apply them once you've tested them on a test server. There have been issues with 64bit java in the past

3. Not really sorry.
