Report for Found Animals
Submitted by ppvs on Tue, 14/06/2011 - 13:43
Hi,
When we have a found dog presented I am using the Patient List Report to try and match any possible patients on file to the found one. I am wondering if there is another report that we could also bring in colour, sex, desexed and DEACTIVATED. I keep our database very current and regularly go thru and deactivate patients and clients.
In our previous Practice management software we had a "query" section that could pull a lot of specific data. Would this be something other users would find beneficial or is this available and we haven't found it?
Thanks
Bernie
Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Bernie,
I will have a go at creating a report that you can provide search filters such as the ones you have described. Give me at least 2 weeks...... others will probably do a better and faster job :)
In the meantime your "query" section sounds intriguing. Did it let you load "queries" and then have the results load into a workspace for working from? I have often thought this would be great. We could even use the templates as the source of the query.
What do others think?

Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Bernie and Matt,
there is already a report that can find patients through some of these search criteria in the shared resources. It's the Patient List Report. It could be improved to provide more filters and output better info such as client id.

Re: Report for Found Animals
Stupid me just reread the original question and realised that you already knew that. Sorry misunderstood.
Re: Report for Found Animals
Don't be so harsh on yourself!!
Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Bernie,
Finished your patient report with filters for;
sex, desexed, colour and deactivated.

Link works from forums.
Note that the desexed and deactivated filters are Yes/No filters and are always on.
eg. It will not search for both desexed & entire pets simultaneously as the previous version did.
Re: Report for Found Animals
Thanks Matt,
I went to the link but the report is a pdf. Does it need to be one of the jxml types to import?
Thanks Again,
Bernie
Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Bernie,
Sorry, that was the test run!
I have attached the correct report to this reply and fixed the link in Shared Resources section (here).
My apologies,

Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Matt,
I don't think I have the report side down pat at all. I think it is correct that I put a precentage before and after if it "includes" and just before if it is the only choice??? I think I have tried all ways.....
This new report still seems to bring up everyone and not for eg the %canine %male %brindle% desexed-ticked deactivated unticked %staff%
If you could shed some light that would be much appreciated.
Sorry to be a pain,
Bernie
Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Bernie,
I think plenty of people get confused with the "%" so don't worry. It is possible the report is misbehaving as well! I did a bit of testing before I released it and today and it is seems to be working fine.
I have uploaded a new version as you might have found that if you ran the report without changing all the options you got no results. It was becuase of the pesky Deactivated and Desexed fields. They have been the reason the report took so long to come out. :) I also added a colour column to the results.

OK, so let's look at the %.
Example
So say you want to find all;
- Female German Shepards called "Ripley" (The details of my dog :) )
I would enter:
a) "F%" in Sex
b) "Ger%" in Breed
c) "Rip%" in Name
The % literally means "any number of any character"
This will return the following examples:
1. Female German Shepard "Ripples"
2. Female German Short haired pointer "Ripoff"
3. Female German Pooly "Ripped"
Cheers,
Matt C
Re: Report for Found Animals
Morning,
Well I think we are getting closer - did you play with the deactivated tick as I am still doing something wrong as none of the patients that we have deactivated are coming up.
Thanks
Bernie
Re: Report for Found Animals
Evening Bernie,
Hmmm. I just checked on our OpenVPMS using the "11 06 30" version.
Ticking Deactivated shows all deactivated animals.
Unticking shows all active animals....
Not so for you?

Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Matt,
Sorry this is taking so much time.
I have searched in our old system and open so I know there are deactivated dogs that are not deceased (old system would bring both up) with that description and when I tick deactivated I get a blank screen.
I have checked the version and it seems correct.

Re: Report for Found Animals
Oh and Bernie,
Not the same as your post regarding searching for duplicate patients but these reports look for duplicated customers.

Re: Report for Found Animals
From a brief look at the query I believe it is looking for deactivated clients, not patients.

Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Bernie and Matt Y,
You are spot on Matt.
I fixed the query and have uploaded the last version.......
Fingers crossed. :)

Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Matt & Matt
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have added a screen shot so you may be able to see something in the criteria I have entered... If only people had a collar, tag & UTD detailed microchip this report would not be needed.......
Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi,
I have tried running this report with Matts latest file but get the attached error before it even gets to entering any details. Earliest version worked fine. Any idea of what is wrong?

Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Bernie & hi Nick,
Whew! I admire your patience.
I have tested and attached yet another version to this post and updated the version in the shared resources section.
It specifically did not work when the Deactivated box was ticked due to me missing an old filter that excluded all deactivated pets!
Nick,
I am not sure why you are getting that error. If you upload the latest version and it happens again, let me know. I may be able to test remotely for you :)
Keep the faith.

Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Matt,
Still some weird Boolean error message. No other reports are doing this. Any advice?
Nick
Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Nick,
Your boolean error is a jasper report engine issue but I have changed the the report so it is more backwards compatible. It now works in Version 1.4.
Re: Report for Found Animals
Hi Matt,
Thanks for your time - all issues resolved now
Nick
Re: Report for Found Animals
Morning Matt,
Thanks so much!!! :) :)
Runs perfectly. I hope others will find this report beneficial after all the work that has gone in to it. No worries keeping the faith, I am glad you were happy to keep at it.
Cheers
