Should auto price update set the date?

If Auto Price Update is set in the supplier tab for a product, then when a delivery is finalised the price will be updated if the supplier list price on the delivery record has been updated.

However, this action does not either update the Start Date for the price, or create a new price record with a new start date.

Q1. Is this a bug or a feature?

Q2. In either case, should there be a new price record?

My feeling is that we should leave things as is - except for documenting the current behaviour (which I will do shortly).

Note that we do use Auto Price Update feature because for many products, we want the sell price in whole dollars - and thus we really need a rounding control facility.

Re: Should auto price update set the date?

All that happens is that it updates the current unit price for the product the unit prices start date doesnt change  nor does it create a new unit price.  It just updates the current unit cost price to the new one.  Creating a new price would mean markup needs to be reentered or copied from the old price.

Regarding rounding  - the thing is that rounding occurs at the invoice level anyway, I wouldnt necessarily recommend we round at the invoice item level which I think is what you are suggesting.

To avoid legal issues what you needs is a customized pricing equation that rounds as the price is calculated.

Re: Should auto price update set the date?

Its a feature. There hasn't yet been a requirement to generate new prices.

Regarding rounding, calculated prices are rounded according to the practice currency rounding conventions.

Re: Should auto price update set the date?

Ben/Tim A - thanks for the input.  Have updated the doco.

Ben - the base rounding is there (ie the half up/down etc set for the currency's rounding mode is, as Tim A says, applied). This is done to get exact cents. However, there is no rounding to the minimum cash denomination.

Tim - do you mind if I create a project for sell price rounding? [Would round using the existing rounding method to a specified amount - the default would be $0.01 (ie no change for current systems), and we would set $1.00.  This would be used whenever the sell price was recalculated by the system as a result of the user editing the markup or cost price, or an auto update from a finalised delivery. It would not operate if the user modified the sell price (ie we could enter $1.99 if we wanted and it would not convert to $2.00) or if the import facility was used to import price updates.]

Done - see http://www.openvpms.org/project/selling-price-rounding

When you price it, I am confident that I can get you the money.
