Suggested Addition - New Reporting Sub menu - Estimates

Proposed changes.

  • This will add a new submenu to the reporting workspace which provide a list of current and valid estimates, it will not show estimates that have expired.
  • It will also lead to an update of the estimates archetype to make an expiration date compulsory on all estimates. and un-hide the id node.
    • This will allow staff to reference the estimates by a code and when clients ring they(the client) can provide the estimate id to allow easy referencing by the staff.
  • The workspace will also have a print button to allow printing of finalized and valid estimates.  If the estimate is not marked as finalized printing would ask for finalization prior to printing.
    • Consider adding a print button to the Customer - Estimate workspace as well to reprint final estimates.

Typically a practice may have a default customer which they may provide estimates to non clients.

The estimation should have an expiry date to avoid estimates from past years and pricings being left as valid.

I would like a consensus of opinion on this change from the user base.

Re: Suggested Addition - New Reporting Sub menu - Estimates

Given the lack of response to this option I am assuming there is no interest in this.

Re: Suggested Addition - New Reporting Sub menu - Estimates

I am afraid for us we don't feel this would be the best use of our money! Sorry. We just don't use the estimates enough. The only part I would be vaguely keen on is the print button idea.

Re: Suggested Addition - New Reporting Sub menu - Estimates

The question is not one of financial support - but simply if users would like this in Openvpms or whether it will complicate things.

I code additions for my practice group - whether those additions are added the base Openvpms Code is completly up to the user group of Openvpms.

I will still use them in a version of Openvpms I develop in parrellel to the main line of development.

If users are interested I will submit a patch back to Tim A for inclusion - if not the patch will be maintained in my parrellel line and we will use it internally.

Examples of additions -

  • the new Customer/patient summary features.
  • The new method to display phone numbers for sms's

Pending additions -

  • Duplex printing - still need user feedback
  • Estimate's Workspace - this thread
  • Investigations Workspace updates.

Its possible that even with user consensus these updates dont get applied to the core program because of external factors ...ie I get bored coding ...if that happened and the user base still wanted the change then Tim A(representing openvpms pty ltd would develop a project and ask for funding.  It might even happen that the way I implement a change is not inline with development guidelines and  funding is asked for  anyway to correctly implement the code and include it.

Re: Suggested Addition - New Reporting Sub menu - Estimates

Hi Ben,

I think making an expiry date compulsory for all estimate (whether by manual entry or by default of say 3 months) and the Print button would be great addition to the Estimate workspace.

Kind regards,
