Suppliers Module, Bin Locations, and Order Reversal
Hi all,
I'm continuing to evaluate the supplier module (orders/deliveries) and ran across a couple questions I thought I'd pose to the group here. We split out our inventory by bin location and assign to different nurses to "own" the count in each (or at least we're in the process of implementing this system). I've taken a look at using "Stock Location" to handle this, but it seems that one would need to know where things go when receiving deliveries because the system wants to know into which stock location something was received. We don't necessarily know this ahead of time. So, I'm thinking to add a new archetype, or modify whichever one that specifies a product location to have an attribute called "Bin Number", or "Cabinet Name" (or some such). Has anyone else done this, or have an alternate recommendation?
Another small thing I ran into is that Orders don't seem to be reversible, where Devileries are. Has this caused an issue for anyone? I'm curious as to why that might be.
Thanks, Paul
Re: Suppliers Module, Bin Locations, and Order Reversal
Hi Paul,
Will each product only have one bin location ?
Could multiple products be in the same bin i.e cabinet ?
Do you want to do stock reports and stocktake by bin ?
Depending on answers could implement using Classifications or by modifying product archetypes to add a bin location lookup.
Don't think there is a concept of reversing an order but can delete if not finalised and if finalised you can edit and cancel part of all of the order by adjusting cancelled qty's.

Re: Suppliers Module, Bin Locations, and Order Reversal
Hi Tony,
Thanks for your help. That makes sense about setting cancelled quantities -- and would work for backing out any error made by the orderers.
As to bin locations, there would be multiple products per bin. We'll do stock-take by bin -- by assigning a particular bin (or set of bins) to an individual. I expect each product will have only one bin location. I suppose it could have more than one, but in that event we could setup a separate product to track. It's unlikely that we'd do this because it makes it more difficult to track quantity.
I'm unaware of how to create classifacations, but see I can assign one through to a product. I could modify the report to take advantage of that relationship. I'd prefer an approach that wouldn't break anything on an upgrade, so I've been shying away from modification of archetypes.
Cheers, Paul
