Unable to print from open vpms, attempting to print freezes program

We have had a sudden problem where we are unable to print anything from open vpms and attempting to print anything freezes the whole program. This includes drug labels from the label printer as well as invoices, certificates etc from the A4 printer. We are able to print other documents on this printer from the same computer (eg Word documents) but not anything from open vpms. When we attempt to print anything from open vpms we get the small grey box with "Please wait..." and the scrolling circle symbol but then it freezes. We are unable to click cancel or navigate away from the screen. The only thing we can do then is close the whole page down and reopen in a new window.

We have never had this issue before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just an update: if we go to preview first, then print from there we can print both labels and invoices

Re: Unable to print from open vpms, attempting to print ...

The fact that you are having issues with both certificates and invoices suggests that the server running OpenVPMS is unable to connect to the printers. Certificates (and .doc/.odt templates in general) print via OpenOffice, whereas invoices print via OpenVPMS directly. Typically if there is just a problem with OpenOffice, you will still be able to print invoices.

When you print from the preview, you are printing a PDF from your local machine, not the machine running OpenVPMS.

The way to resolve the problem depends on what operating system you a using. The easiest approach may simply be to reboot the server running OpenVPMS.

Failing that, you may need to get an IT support person to look at your setup to see why printing is failing.
