Win 2003 server - OK ?

I am just bringing up a converted RxWorks system. While I had previously intended to run OPV on a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS system, I currently have it running on a Win2003 server.

I was dreading the job of getting the OPV server to talk to all the printers (which are shared printers on various PCs) because I have no experience configuring printers on a Ubuntu system.

However, I fully understand printer configuration on a Win2003 system (because the RxWorks system runs on a Win2003 server).

Hence it struck me that if I leave the OPV system running on Win2003, then the printers are a non issue.

Am I being stupid running OPV on the Win2003 system?

[Note that we run the the Win2003 server as kvm virtual machines under a Unbuntu 12.04 LTS running on a good sized Dell server.]

Re: Win 2003 server - OK ?

I run my main OPENVPMS  install on Windows Server 2003 R2, runs well, memory is your big bugbear, you need lots.  Processer speed is less important IMO.   Make sure the virtual machine has enough memory, each session adds load and if its a big practice it eats memory easily, I also find I need to reboot atleat weekly, TOMCAT has a bad habit of gradually consuming memory unders 2003, I swear it has memory leaks.  Restarting tomcat helps, but a complete reboot (I know not ideal) seems to clear the air.

Incidently we run on a HP server with dual processors and 16gb of memory, Raid 5 SAS Drives and it runs pretty well.

Thanks Ben - that is reassuring. Regards, Tim G
