Word Mergefields

I have some hospital forms made in Word that will not open in OO ans will be difficult to remake from scratch in OO. Is there a list of mergefields that will work in oVPMS that will work in Word?

Thanks,

Nick

Re: Word Mergefields

Hi Nick,

I haven't yet seen a word doc that doesn't open in OO. Have you tried a recent version? I'd be interested in having a look -- the OO folks (or LibreOffice folks) would probably be interested as well.

Cheers, Paul

Re: Word Mergefields

Hi Nick,
Can you tell me how you are opening it I.e. just clicking on Word icon while viewing template or opening a previous copy you have in a folder somewhere.
Also what error do you get in OO ?

Cheers Tony

Re: Word Mergefields

Hi Paul, Tony

I am opening the document by clicking on the file and choosing 'open with' OO writer. The main problem is that it loses all the formatting of the tables and boxes involved in the GA chart.

I have attached the document.

Thanks for having a look

Re: Word Mergefields

Hi Nick,

This can be a common problem when opeing a Word document with complex formatting in Open Office.  I suggest you download the document (or open a saved copy of the document you have in a folder) and edit in Word and re attach as a word document.

Cheers

Re: Word Mergefields

Hi Tony,

The form is in Word - what I need to know is if there are mergefields for the various Owner/Pet details I can use in Word. If there are not then I will just have to try and remake the document in Open writer so I can use the fields that have been published in this site.

Thanks,

Nick

Re: Word Mergefields

Hi Nick,

The process is:

  • Place cursor at position you want merge field
  • Hit Ctrl - F9  (Word shortcut to insert a Merge field)
  • Type MERGEFIELD, a space, the OpenVPMS merge field you want to use i.e patient.entity.name, and then a space.
  • Repeat for other merge fields

Hope this helps.

Cheers Tony

Re: Word Mergefields

Hi Tony,

Thanks for that, the merges went in fine, however, when connected to a patient the top half of the document was fine but for some reason it has totally upset the formatting in the bottom half of the page - boxes and tables have been moved around all over the place - perfect when previewed in templates but merge with the patient as a letter in Open VPMS and things go crazy.

Anyone any ideas to stop this.

By the way Tony, the new Patient export report has removed deceased patients thank you.

Nick
