Auto-promt for rabies tag numbers
Hello fellow users.
We were considering proposing a new development and were curious if others would be interested as well.
We would like to see an auto-promt be generated when an invoice is completed that includes a rabies vaccine. The prompt would require that a rabies tag number be entered before the user could proceed. While a process currently exists for entering this information, an auto-prompt would be both quicker and ensure fewer tags sneak out without getting recorded.
Clearly this would mainly apply to the US clinics. Any shared interest?

Alan - one possible way to do this would be to use the document print facility - see http://www.openvpms.org/documentation/csh/1.7/product/tabs#document
ie for the rabies vaccination product the system prints a reminder document. I think it should be possible to print nothing if the patient has a rabies tag but to print "Bozo needs a Rabies Tag" if he has not got one.
I am currently away from home. Will have a play when I return home next week.
Note however, that this is not ideal because the note is printed at invoice time, and you really want it before that.

We would not be interested in this per say. But a variation of this where when an item is invoiced, then saved, to prompt for a note.
An example of how this might be used....
- When a new charge is invoiced (e.g. an individual cremation) it could pop up with a new note (complete with prefilled macro) asking what sort of vessel is desired. I actually think this would potentially be better for your situation as well. It would prompt at the time of invoicing rather than completion.
I think what you are looking for is a way for an invoice item, when saved, to prompt to add a patient identity field (I think this is where this rabies tag information would be stored?). This would be a good addition. From our point of view it would be even better though if invoicing an item could also prompt for a patient note for example.

Rabies tags are a form of patient identity, along with microchips and pet tags.
It sounds as though a facility is needed that prompts for a rabies tag when a rabies vaccination is charged. The entered tag would then be added to the patient.
This could be extended to include microchips and pet tags, so that when charged, the identity is prompted for and stored on the patient.
Adrian, would your example be better suited to a template that prompts to select a particular product? E.g. when the cremation template is expanded, it displays a list of possible vessels to select from; the selected one is added to the invoice.

- No, my suggestion would not be suited to a template. We don't want to have 40 different cremation urn options for example. This is a pain to enter and maintain and open to error.
- We would however really like the ability to have a note with macro tied to changes (and vise versa). Charge an ultrasound and you get a note with US macro prompted.... It would encourage people to charge so then they can automaticlly progress to entering information!
- Ditto, how cool would it be if macro for ultrasound prompted you to then charge the ultrasound!!!! = charge capture!

Adrian, I think your requirements need to be addressed in a separate project. Do you want to be able to create:
Its unlikely that we will support charging on macro expansion; that would require support to charge when editing patient history, something that would be hard to implement.

We really only want to be able to create patient notes....
The more I can encourage people to charge... then write notes... the better our charge capture will be and with the ability to generate patient notes, hopefully the better our histories will be!

It would be great if a prompt was available for any Patient Identity as stated above. This would help a lot of hospitals enter the Microchip & Rabies # at the time of invoicing.

If you invoice an estimate, when should the rabies tag/microchip be prompted for? Immediately, or when the invoice is completed or finalised?

I think a prompt that could be configured to request a value for any field. Ie product A requiresmall a NOTE. PRODUCT B requires a microchip identity field. Etc prompt should execute on invoicing

I've updated the Microchip entry at billing project to incorporate Rabies tags and other patient identities.
Please review to see if it meets your requirements. Its been costed based on the features listed.
