All products can have a barcode assigned in their identities tab. Once the barcodes are entered you can add a product to a counter sale or invoice by simply scanning the barcode instead of typing and searching for the product.
We mainly use the barcode scanner for sales of flea control products as it prevents people either entering or picking up the wrong packet size.

Hi Matt,
Was there any particular method to get the scanner working on the open VPMS side. We enter the correct bar code into open VPMS but do not seem to get anywhere from there.

Hi Michael
As long as the barcode is entered under the Product/ Identities tab / Add Barcode, you should be able to create a counter sale or invoice, put your cursor where the product should be typed and scan the product.
The numbers on the barcode will come up just enter or apply to choose this.

I believe some bar code scanners can also be programed to send the a "Return" key stroke after scanning. Not sure if this would work with openVPMS but one of our other VPMS uses this quite successfully. The carriage return is coded in the barcode software not the VPMS.

Re: Barcode scanning
Hi Michael,
As Cath said you need to enter the barcode into Product/ Identities tab / Add Barcode. The barcode listed under the supplier tab doesn't work.
