Breed not adding to new client
Submitted by Guest on Wed, 12/08/2009 - 15:15
When i go to add on a new client and their animal ( Dog or Cat) i am unable to put the breed of the animal on it keeps defulting to none. You can add the rest of the details and then apply, then go back in and edit.
It will then let you put the breed on. We have tried this on different computers, with different user names and different staff and it keep happening. Was all working ok on the demo model we were using before going live and was also working on monday when we went live, started not working Yesterday.
Is anyone else having trouble with this and what can we do to fix.
Re: Breed not adding to new client
I think this maybe associated with the following bug that occurs if you use keyboard selection to select from a dropdown list (i.e. type R and use arrows to select a entry and then click Ok directly without first tabbing or entering out of the specific field. The field returns to its default value (none in this case). The bug is detailed here:
https://openvpms.atlassian.net/browse/OVPMS-830
The temporary solution is to tab out of the select box first before click Ok .. This seems to work in all cases I have tested.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Tony P.S. This is slated to be fixed in version 1.4

Breed not adding to new client
Update on Breeds
HI Tony
Just an update on the breed problem - now that we have default the speices to dog that you are no longer able to add a bird as speices and but in the breed with out having to save and edit. Strange little bug.

Re: Update on Breeds
Think I have worked this out and why you are the only one so far who has seen this issue.
One of the features we introduced in version 1.3 was the ability to setup custom fields per species. In the species lookup you can stipulate a customer fields definition (actually an archetype link but that's too much info ..). You are one of the first to actually utilise this feature.
Anyway when you change species from a species with custom fields to one without or visa versa it somehow upsets the behaviour of selection boxes as you have noted.
I will JIRA this and see it is fixed. In the mean time a way to overcome the issue is to set the other species (i.e Bird etc) to utilise the same custom field selection. This way the fields do not change when you change species and do not upset the selection box behaviour. I have actually tested this on your site and it seems to remedy the issue.
Cheers Tony
