Adrian - this isn't a bug - if you create a patient, unless your are clever, it will not be linked to a customer.

The following is my recipe for the fastest/bestest way to add a new customer and patient [I built it as a result of having to teach my son how to do it, and I plan to add a set of how-to's to the Intro section of the Context Sensitive Help, but I haven't done this yet]

1. on Customers|Information screen, click New and fill in the customer details
2. on the Patients tab, click Add, and on the New Patient Owner sub-window, click the binoculars at the end of the patient field
3. on the resulting Patient select window, click the New button at the bottom, and fill in the patient details and click the OK button
4. you are now back on the New Customer screen
5. if there is another patient for this customer, go back to step 2
6. having added the patients, now click the Contact tab and add the required contact details
7. when done, click OK on the New Customer screen
