Clinician entry - spped in workflows

Hi everyone,
I was recently visiting another OpenVPMS users' clinic and he mentioned the number of times it is required to enter a clinicians name. It got me thinking. How often do I need to re-enter my name when working through a task like a consultation? How is the user that appears by default chosen by the program? The truth is I can't say I know the answer to either question, but it is a legitimate point.

My expereince seems to be that once I have entered my name in the clinican field once, it seems to be retained. In our hands this seems to work best. But I could imagine a number of different rules without trying that hard.

1. Should it be as described above, the last Clincian entered?
2. Should the "logged in" user be the default?
3. Should it be the clinician for whom the appointment has been made for?
Perhaps a developer could spell out the logic currently applied?

Then I got thinking even harder... (dangerous I know). Does everything that currently has an association with a clinician need one?
1. Visit - Yes I think so
2. Medical records within a visit  - Yep
3. Invoices - Dunno about this one. Not sure if the invoice itself needs a cliniician - especially given that invoice items within the invoice can be added by multiple clinicians.
4. Invoice items - For sure
5. Labels - I remember asking Tony, shouldn't this always be the invoice item clinician? He rightly pointed out that not all labels have an associated invoice item. They can exist just atttached to medical records.
What do other users think about the need for these associations?

Cheers,
Matt
