Deceased and active tick boxes & text entries into other fields?

Hi all,
Does anyone else have problems with people inadvertently ticking the deceased box? - same could apply to active.

Could a rule apply that unless a date is stipulated in the box below, the entry won't be accepted (perhaps if it also allowed you to type in text such as unknown, rather than just a date in the field, so you dont have to make up a date)?

In the case of the active/inactive, leave the designation where it is but place the decision box on a more obscure tab? Or as an alternative could we make it that only admin can alter active/inactive?

Also is it difficult to get drop down boxes, such as breed or date of birth, to accept text entries typed in directly without losing their drop down function and/or perhaps the Age field could accept a direct entry of aged, unknown or an actual age(over ridden of course by an actual date being entered above).

In other words I would like to be able to type in 2 years old or aged for instance - currently I just date the former arbitarily as 1/6/2007

Not sure if others would find these tweaks useful?

Thanks Geoff

Did you know that you can write -2y (or w or d or a combination eg -1y2m)  in the date of birth box to get a calculated value? Peter geoffsim@yahoo.com.au wrote:

Hi Peter,

No I didn't realize there was a short cut for entering approximate dates of birth. Thanks for the tip.

Cheers Geoff.

Deceased & Active tick boxes

Hi Geoff,

We've had the problem of the active/inactive box being changed inadvertently in all area's of the program.  I'd be happy with your idea of having to enter a date for the deceased box also applying to the active/inactive box.

Sandra.

Re: Deceased & Active tick boxes

On the subject of active tick boxes, the vets in our practice would all prefer to automatically see all the deceased patients associated with a client (not that we have that many of course) rather than un-ticking the box each time. Is there an option to have the default setting for the "hide inactive patients" as unchecked?
While I've temporarily stopped 'lurking' on the list, a couple of other findings from the stock take exercise I'm sure we have all just finished (and pretty smoothly and successfully thanks to OpenVPMS).
1. Stock with a zero cost amount prints on the stock take report, but not on the stock valuation report. This makes it hard to pick up this error, whereas if it printed on both you would see items with a +ve quantity but no value and be able to go back and correct the price.
2. I wanted to delete a report (set up 2 copies of the stock valuation reportaccidentally) but wasn't able to. Error message "cannot delete or update parent row..." Got around this by deactivating but not ideal. Should we be able to delete reports?
3. At present it is not possible to have a breed lookup as a target for more than one species (except those that existed at data conversion), error message is "duplicate entry". Poss not much of a problem for cat and dog vets but potential issue for largies (eg Friesian cows and horses) and we see birds as both wild and paying and have them as separate species. Is this sort of multiple association difficult to allow?

Re: Deceased & Active tick boxes

Hi Tim,

As far as having a preference for displaying inactive patients initially or not is definitely possible to do from a development perspective but whether it is seen as a priority and you can get some buy into its development is another matter. Suggest see what happens as far as discussion and then we can JIRA.

Other matters:

1. Stock Valuation report. Can definitely include zero value items. May get a chance to look at report on weekend...

2. Deleting templates. Tried this here and worked Ok. Not sure why doesn't there. Can you check your OpenVPMS version just in case something that has already been fixed in later one.

3. Breeds. Currently not able to add duplicate breed names or connect same breed to two species. If you have a breed name that belongs to two species you will need to add the second breed name with some prefix to differentiate them. I will look into if this can be changed but think may open a can of worms ...

Cheers Tony
