External Prescriptions

I am overlooking where I would add a medication that would preload for external RX or where I even edit this type of information. I created a RX last night and it kept trying to print out a label first. What am I doing wrong and where to look to add this? :)
Re: External Prescriptions
So in the package that comes with OpenVPMS there is a prescription.odt file
Make sure this is uploaded in your templates and set the appropriate dropdowns to make sure its the default prescription letter.
In the prescription tab of the patient file simply highlight the row - then click the print button at the bottom. This should print the script.
Like the one below
Re: External Prescriptions
I would add that as a clinician I am not entirely happy with the way Open handles prescriptions - I would note that I have modified the prescription letter to be compliant with QLD law.
I would love that when a script is printed its marked as dispensed or something or prescribed - pharmacists are pretty lax with these private scripts - basically I have seen a client use a copy of a script to get 2 lots of meds. The ID field should have prevented that but pharmacists dont really do much with these as they are not PBS scripts and dont have a high degree of oversight.
Re: External Prescriptions
Hi Ben,
This is an issue that VetRx is looking to solve, and we're keen to integrate into OpenVPMS.
The ID field that you refer to on the prescription is not synced back from the pharmacist's software to a national database. There is absolutely no system currently in place to prevent script duplication and multiple dispensing of veterinary scripts.
Enabling electronic prescriptions for the animal health industry means that the dispensing history becomes visible to all (vets, pharmacists, animal owners).
Once paper is removed from the system, the possibility of prescription fraud / copying is eliminated. Pharmacists will not be able to dispense more that the stipulated quantity.
VetRx is available to use now, but is not yet integrated with a VPMS. This is the next step in our development pathway. We hope that you will find this a useful feature for external prescriptions.
Kind regards,
Greg
Re: External Prescriptions
Hey Greg - any movement on this - I noted a number of pharmacy's are now using VetRx as well as many clinics signed up
Have you guys looked at VPMS integrations?
Re: External Prescriptions
Thats all well and good but is VetRx integrated with pharmacy's. Until it becomes standard it wouldnt really work - I have lost count as to the number of online pharmacy's now.. and we are required buy defacto law now it issue hard copy scripts.
Re: External Prescriptions
I would also add OpenVPMS is already setup to work with what you can call an external pharmacy. The API framework would have been added as part of the Cubex integration.
