Funding for Projects

Hi Matt,

Just wanted to  confirm some funding for specific projects:

1) Change preview button in estimates to print

2) Animal age changes

3) New style of multi-selection box for editing

4) Interactive reminder interval

5) Printing multiple copies of a document

There may be some others but I can't remember. Now it was mentioned at the forum to put 10% towards each of these & we are happy to do this but can put in more if needed. Our practice is only 2 months old & I am not sure what other practices do but we have decided to put a proportion of expected turnover into development of projects in OpenVPMS. This means we have a budget (same way as we will do for donations & community support for the year) as a rough guide as to how much money we would put in. Although this is a 'free' program, we all udnerstand that it needs work & will need this eternally, and we realise that we would be spending the a fair amount if we were using one of the other veterinary software programs.

I was not sure how other practices approach this funding issue. Let me know if this seems fair.

Cheers,

Glen

How to fund development projects

Hi Glen,

Thanks for the very generous support. I will send you a summary of your pledges soon.

The support you give ofcourse helps everyone. The OpenVPMS community is utterly reliant on active contributors such as yourself. All of the user funded features present since version 1.3 have been the result of users and in some cases industry, giving their money and ideas to the community.

The manner in which people choose to support OpenVPMS is of course up to them. I think people need to see their annual IT budget as beeing given freedom by OpenVPMS's low subscription rates. Some may choose to spend the money saved on better IT support or hardware, others may use it on development and some will pocket the saving.

At Boronia we support the 10% concept (almost every idea is worth it if 10 people contribute to it). In cases where we see a project we really need, we will step in and fund the whole thing once we feel the community has had a chance to contribute.

People are also more then welcome to email me directly if they would prefer their pledges be kept confidential.

Cheers,

Matt Costa
