Merge field macros

I can't find the original thread so I have cut and pasted from my user's digest

No Tony,

What I want to be able to do, is use the macros that I have set up in openvpms, to appear when I type them into the merge field boxes that pop up to type text into in the "Letters" drop down menu from the Hx.

For example - we have prescription forms in letters that have boxes that pop up so we can enter the drug, dose rate and the vet prescribing. I have set up Macros in OpenVPMS so that our initials come up with our full titles and qualifications, so then it is easier than typing them out all the time (as some of our vets have a lot of letters after their names!!). When I am typing in the notes for the hx or in the printer label box, they work fine, but on a "Letter" it will not work.

Do these boxes only recognise macros set up in word or open office at this point, or is there a way that it will recognise macros from Open VPMS?

Hi Amanda,

Sorry a little unsure what you are asking here.

Do you want to know how to insert openvpms merge fields into Word documents
?

(hit Ctrl-F9 and then type MERGEFIELD , a space , the openvpms merge field
you want inserted (i.e patient.entity.name) and then a space)

Or

How to insert a field into a word document template that will prompt you
for input on merging the letter in OpenVPMS ?

(Insert -> Field->Merge -> Fillin .. Enter Prompt text and OK)

Cheers
Tony

Re: Merge field macros

Hi Amanda,Ahh  .. OK.Typically macros will be recognised in any text entry field in OpenVPMS but I am not sure if they are in the pop up fields associated with user fields in word or open office. Will check it out in the code .. CheersTony

Re: Merge field macros

Hi Amanda,I checked this with Tim and these text fields don't currently support macros.  We can JIRA a change request for you to make it so they will.  Don't expect it would take much development time .. CheersTony

macros in letters

This would be a great thing to add to open vpms and save HEAPS of time in our practice

Sample macros

Hi Amanda, can you post sample macros that you'd like to be able to use in the "Input Parameters" dialog?

Just the name of the macro, and the value of the 'Expression' for each.

Thanks,

Tim

Merge field macros

For example, just the vets names and titles to go on prescriptions docs. The longest one is mine and is below

Dr Amanda Hulands-Nave BVSc(Hons)MACVSc(SAM)MVSt V4066

-->> as these are a pain to type out every time. Also once working we would like to be able to add side effects to medications that o should be aware of. eg after rimadyl dispensed

"Rimadyl must be given with food. If vomiting or diarrhoea occurs or you notice a change in the faeces to black, then stop the medication immediately and phone the clinic"

That kind of stuff

OK - that simplifies things a bit. I'll readjust the work estimate.

Costing done on Macros in Letters

This project has been costed by the developers and will require $825 to be raised in pledges before development can commence.

Being eligible for early testing of new functionality is dependent on having funded a projects development.

Development will not commence until the project is fully funded.

Pledges can be made be emailing op_funding[at]boroniavet.com[dot]au

Macros in Letters Funding Update (100%!)

Hi everyone,

This project has been fully funded by one very generous user. Now we all get to use macros in Patient & other letters.

It is GOOD to be part of the OpenVPMS community!

Cheers,
