IDEA: The "No Email" link opens an add email link rather than the email sending window.

When you click "No email" it opens the email send window...- ideally could it behave like the add microchip button allowing staff to add an email address.

+1 for this

Re: IDEA: The "No Email" link opens an add email link rather ...

Thanks Ben for suggesting this idea and thanks Tim for raising this project! I'm happy to donate to this when it is costed.

While on the email subject, I have to admit we don't use the built-in email support within OpenVPMS but rather centralise our emailing using Outlook. Our client phone numbers and emails are entered into Outlook as we can then sync the details onto our mobile phones this way. Is it possible to add an option to config OpenVPMS to run the webpage "mailto:" command when the client's email address is clicked so it would open up the default email handler on the PC/device to create a new email like how it would on a webpage link? I'm happy to fund such function if it is possible.

Kind regards,

You would lose a lot of functionality this way. A mailto: link only supports addresses, the subject, and a plain text message.

It wouldn't support:

  • attachments
  • HTML templates
  • communications logging

Another approach would be to export contact data from OpenVPMS and import it into Outlook.
This would just need an OpenVPMS report that exported the data in the CSV format Outlook needs.

The Outlook CSV format is described here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-or-edit-csv-files-to-i...

Re: IDEA: The "No Email" link opens an add email link rather ...

Thanks for your reply, Tim! We already have all our client contacts on Outlook as we enter their details into both OpenVPMS and Outlook on their first visit, so there is no need to export the contact data in our case.

What I was thinking is the flexibility of choosing to send emails via an external email software using the mailto: link rather than opening the in-built email function. Yes, I'm aware that email communicaton this way will not be logged in OpenVPMS and file attachments will need to be searched and added differently.

Kind regards,

Re: IDEA: The "No Email" link opens an add email link rather ...

I think I'd prefer to include a button next to the existing mail so both functions are available, with appropriate tooltips on each.

Re: IDEA: The "No Email" link opens an add email link rather ...

Hi Tim,

This is a great idea to allow both functions! It'll provide added flexibility for emailing! I'll definitely put my hand up to fund such project.

Kind regards,

Re: IDEA: The "No Email" link opens an add email link rather ...

Could we get the appearance of this additional button configurable at practice location please?

Re: IDEA: The "No Email" link opens an add email link rather ...

It's now turned on via a Practice option. It's off by default.

Re: IDEA: The "No Email" link opens an add email link rather ...

What about a full function email client in Open which can send and receive.

:-)
