Input Parameters to permit saved documents when merging letters - field size.

Hi,

Recently we have upgraded to version 1.3 Beta and are appreciating the advance that has been made, in particular the enhanced scheduler. Another new feature is the ability to fill input parameters into fields before a letter is created and as such, the fields become part of the letter and are subsequently automatically saved to the patient file. This has the potential to be great however I find the input box is too small to accept all the text from the patient note. Is there the ability to change the field size in the archetypes to say 2000 characters to allow the permanent saving of our referral letters to the patient's file.

Thanks,

Sam

Re: Version 1.3

Hi All, WE have also just started using version 1.3 and the speed increase has been quite dramatic. As a clinic with up to four vets consulting at once as well as hospital, surgery and reception tasks I feel that we would test the performance capabilities of any practice management program.....and version 1.3 passes with flying colours! Thanks to all of you who contributed to the discussion on the wish list for 1.3 it's been a massive change for the better. The graphic scheduler certainly suits our daily routine as we can show open slots which are generated from our roster to show availability of consulters. One thing that we haven't sorted out yet is how to make the checked in appointments appear more obvious. We currently have colour changes and script changes for billed clients and completed clients. Are we able to set up a colour code for the checked in appointments? Another small thing that I noticed on the last update of 1.2 was the way the focus was on the "completed" box in billing after the patient history entry was completed. This suits me as I could press "c" (to define the invoice as completed) then tab to get to the comments box before adding invoice items (when invoicing was completed I could then press alt-O twice and the client would show up as "billed" on the scheduler). (How does everyone else work their way through this part of the process?) In version 1.3 the focus is on the comments box instead. Is there any easy way for the user to change the point of focus? Tony and Sam's idea of having the patient's gender on the info box gets my vote too. Is there any way we could pitch in some funds to get this done? How much programmer time would it take?

Hi Pete,

Checked in appointments appear with a Wait and the waiting time in the appointment box. There does not appear to be a  color assigned for this status. Unlike with appointment type or clinician, color type for appointment status is not changeable is my current understanding.

Controlling user focus whe  billing

I can see your point regarding the focus "trail" following the intended sequence of events when billing. Controlling focus has been a challenge within the framework of this web application dvelopment kit is my understanding. I figure your desire stems from 30 years of netvet and using keyboard shortcuts for most tasks. Its my natural inclinication as well.

So for example, when I bill i rarely move the mouse to the buttons, relying instead on the key shortcuts. So perhaps another solution Pete is for there to be shortcuts for common tasks within these dialogs such as changing their status. Ie. Alt-S cycles through the status options or even just moves focus to the Status box.

RE: Some 1.3 points

Hi Matt,

I agree with your points re focus but not necessarily with the solution. In the billing and possibly also the visit dialogue I think it may be worth adding an extra save button option called "Completed" rather than "Save". It would change status and save in one operation. More explicit to user I think ..

Cheers Tony

RE: Version 1.3

Hi Peter,

The colour on a checked-in appointment is not controllable from the user interface but still only requires a change to the style sheet rather than any coding. In the style sheet there is a style called ScheduleTable.CHECKED_IN which has a background property currently set to #ffffff (white). This colour can be easily changed .. as a project default what colour does everyone suggest ?

Adding the Patient sex to the summary panel is very easy and I am happy to make the necessary changes and contribute to the project. Was thinking of putting it next to Patient name and desexed status i.e

Gypsy (Female Desexed) or Roger (Male Entire)

Is this suitable ?

Focus has always been difficult to manage and shifts as we make changes to dialogues. I think there are multiple spots in the application where this need to be reviewed. I have also had a request to have the focus default to the quantity field as soon as you select a product which is a good idea. Any other areas where focus could be improved ?

Cheers Tony

//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> Hi All, Now these are only my preferences...... I like to have the focus in history to start on the clinician as it usually defaults to the person who checked it in. That way I can put in my initials, tab, usually press c to change status to complete because I know it will be just an isolated visit e.g. vaccine, then get on with the business of adding history. The patient summary panel suggestion looks good. I am wary of asking for too much in the customer panel as I believe we really need to go the the information page to get all relevant numbers according to time of day, specific contact person etc. With respect to status colour, it doesn't worry me other than that it should be different to the others. We will all learn the significance of a given colour in a very short time. The overall interface is very intuitive to use. Regards Peter Tony Vigano wrote:

RE: Version 1.3

Hi Matt,

If you are running on Windows Tomcat you will be able to find the stylesheet file in the folder

C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\webapps\openvpms\WEB-INF\classes\org\openvpms\web\resource\style

What propably tricked you is the stylesheet is called default.stylesheet ...

If you edit you will need to restart Tomcat for the changes to come into effect.

If you or others find a good colour I am happy to set it in the project. Just send me the colour code

Cheers Tony

RE: Input Parameters to permit saved documents whenmerging lett

Hi Sam,

I will investigate the field size issue. I believe it is actually set in the code rather than controlled by an archetype.

I was also thinking about the presentation of the input fields especially if we make the field size bigger so you can view th eentered details easier. We currently present them on one big dialogue which can be a bit unwieldy for letters with many input fields. The alternative of a pop-up dialogue for each input field is not that attractive as well as you do not have the ability to go back and edit previous entries. Maybe a worthwhile change is a wizard style dialogue with Next, Back and Finish buttons ?

Input parameters in Letters

Hi everyone,

We have only just started using patient letters (shameful). I remembered Sam talking about getting larger chunks of text into the input fields and found this post. Is there a way to increase the field size greater then 300 characters?

Cheers,

Input parameters in Letters

Not at present. Its currently hardcoded at 300 characters.

This is more for presentation reasons than anything else.

Raise a JIRA to increase it for the 1.4 release.

Thanks Tim. I might

Thanks Tim.

I might give it some thought as it occurs to me that there may be some room for enhancement here.

Does the rest of the user community use letters and input fields much? I know Sam uses them alot. Anyone else?

We have recently started using them for returning referral letters to other clinics and also for generating dispensing scripts (one of these templates is in the community shared resources section).

I wondered if the input field boxes were text editors that returned marked up rich text (eg. formatting like bold, italics etc) would this increase the usefulness of this feature?

We would probably need to use Tonys earlier suggestion about having each field presented one at a time with "Next" and "Previous" buttons.

An screen shot of an example text editor is attached for thiose viewing this post in the forums.
