No print/email button for finalized estimates

I noticed that there is not a print/email button to allow printing and/or emailing of finalized estimates directly out of open. I am hoping that this is a quick development. Would anyone else be interested in seeing this added?

Alan - personally - I do not see this as a 'feature that would like to have added and needs to be paid for', but rather as a bug.

One cannot properly email an estimate to a customer. Yes, there is a preview facility from which one can print the downloaded estimate, but if things are set up for letterhead, then the previewed document will not have the IsEmail parameter set and thus will not generate the logo and address block fields.

Recommendation: We should inject a Jira saying that on the Estimates screen, the Preview button should be changed to a Print button.

Personally I would just recommend we add a Print button - and leave the preview button.

Another possibility would be to:

replace the Preview button with a Print button
provide a shortcut to preview, using Alt-V. This would display a PDF as Preview does now
add a tooltip to the Print button "Use Alt-V to preview"

In other words, wherever there is a Print button, you would be able to press Alt-V to immediately view a PDF. The one place that this wouldn't work would be the Workflow - Customer Orders screen, where the Alt-V shortcut is in use by the View button. In this instance you would need to select Print - Preview.

I concur with this approach. It a) provides a standardised flexible Print mechanism everywhere; b) removes the 'why preview on some and print on others' question; c) allows one key access to preview on almost all screens where printing/previewing is possible.

Printing stays as either a one- or two-key operation depending on whether the template's interactive flag is unset or set.

Is this a Jira or a Project?
