[OpenVPMS Developers] [JIRA] Created: (OVPMS-925) Allow audited editing of payment types on finalised payments.
Key: OVPMS-925 URL: https://openvpms.atlassian.net/browse/OVPMS-925 Project: VPMS Web Application Issue Type: Improvement Components: Financial Reporter: Matthew Young Assignee: Tony De Keizer
There is currently no way to change a payment type once a payment has been finalised apart from reversing the payment and creating another payment. This is problematic in OTC sales.
Suggested solution: Provide an option to allow audited editing of payment types but not amounts on finalised payments.

There's a couple of issues with this: * I'm uncomfortable with changing anything once an act is finalised. Business rules are triggered by finalisation - if you finalise twice, problems start occurring. For an example of this, see OVPMS-733 * The types of objects can't be changed The type of an object is immutable. You can't turn a cash payment into an eftpos payment You need to reverse or delete the cash payment and then create a corresponding eftpos payment When the payment is finalised, the deletion/creation approach is not really an option.
What is the issue with reversing payments for OTC sales?

Sorry I never got a notification of Tim's comment on this one.
There are 2 main situations where this is problematic: 1. With OTC if you reverse a payment there is no way to add a payment on the OTC account, so you end up having to reverse the sale as well and do the whole sale again. 2. When doing the end of day till reconciliation: If the till has been cleared and the days sales have been finalised and an error is subsequently found (I know that it should be checked prior to being finalised, but sometimes people inadvertently finalise prior to checking). The problem here is that when a reversal/creation is performed it throws the till reconciliation report out on the day that the reversal/creation is performed. The overall total will be correct but the breakdown will be wrong.
